"When I ask for an estimate (or take the time to create one for client's in my own business) I actually expect the estimate to mention potential issues that might arise and increase the cost of the project, and I certainly want to make sure I understand the scope of the work. If my estimate is a little bit below the final cost few people have problems. On the other hand if I just don't take the time consider some of the potential issues and think about solutions but just dash off a quote, then I believe I need to stay within the numbers. After all estimates are an important part of the work - they take some time to do well even if you don't get the job. That is part of the $150 per hour some electricians charge. I liked both the electrician and his scheduler and appreciated how quickly they responded to my request for a quote and the portion of the work that was done seems to be working fine. Unfortunately the electrician just didn't really take the time to investigate the full scope of the job so his estimate wasn't even half of what was charged to do just the portion of the job they were able to complete. What they billed us $1100 for was quoted by another electrician at $400. I believe this company may well be a great choice for basic wiring in your home but I think he was not sufficiently familiar with the sort of work we needed done in our warehouse. He would have done us both a favor by admitting this in the beginning rather than when he handed me the bill."

A separate outlet that I assumed was connected to the same GFI, was actually connected elsewhere. He found the correct GFI and reset it as well. "Marvin from Carvin Electric did an excellent job on my request to replace a couple of breakers (15amp Zinsco) on the electrical panel for my parents house. He also cut off the electrical source to the pool pump (parents used to have a pool) and removed the outlet for an old wall unit air conditioner. My husband requested the outlet removal and Marvin obliged because he said the wire to the outlet was live and would be a hazard (especially for my toddler kids). He charged a reasonable price for all three services (only the first one was planned) and the job didn’t take more than an hour.
