"While the cleaning went OK, I wasn't informed as to the mess the polish would leave on the surrounding back splash, refrigerator, stove top, and floor. If I would have been informed, I would have used plastic to cover those areas. The polisher they use with the liquid polish left a mess that required multiple cleanups. We are still cleaning up the spray. Suggest Cross Cleaning use plastic to cover the "over-spray" areas."

"Process went very smoothly and I'm very happy on the way the counters turned out. Yvonne was very informative and kept in contact via text and phone calls. She kept me informed on the progress of the countertops and was always proactive and responsive via text or phone calls. The installation went smooth with no issues and the team called ahead and arrived on time. I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for an upgrade on their countertops."

"Unbelievable transformation!. Looks like tub and tiles were freshly installed. I had a quote done to replace tiles by another company and it would have cost me 5 times for new tile work and this does not even include the tub. AStar charged me much much less for the refinishing of both tub and wall. Jesse and his son Chris were very professional all the way from qaulity of work, timeliness, explanation of job, cleanliness, protection of pro[erty, and communication. I definitely recommend their company and services."

"I couldn't be happier with this company. We did a total remodel of our kitchen and kept getting postponement of the delivery of the island and bar countertops. They would give up one time frame and then move it to a later time. We called Armadillo and they came out the next day. In a little over a week, Mario installed the new island and bar. They look awesome! We were so pleased we had his company install the back splash. We will definitely use this company when doing the remodel of the 3 bathrooms."

"They took an extra day to complete it from what was estimated, but that didn't affect the cost, so I did not really care. The finished result was exactly what I wanted, which was the fantastic look of dark hardwood flooring with the benefits of porcelain. It's easy to maintain, and there are no scratches from my 100+ pound dogs. I'm writing this review 2 years after installation, and I have not come across any problems or issues. I would use them again if and when I move...since I can't take my floors with me!

"3 days installation could easily have been 1 day, 1 1/2 days at most, except that 2 installers required 10-15 minute breaks every hour, did not arrive on time and left early, with one hour + lunch breaks. My queries were met with condescending attitude - obviously I didn't understand the job. At the end of day 1, when their feeble attempts to capture the terrible dust from prep work was done, I specifically asked if any more dust would be generated next day. Answer was no. I cleaned for hours that night. Next day: more sawing and dust again! Expectation setting is key in any service job - this service provider failed, not once but several times, depite my attempts at clarifying what would happen next in the process and what the 'side effects' would be (e.g., fine dust all over my house, extreme toxic smell from glue). The " finish and cleanup" day 3 was very stressful for me - the installers again were condescending when I insisted on them re-sanding rough edges, calking and grouting areas and sections they missed or did not do well. The installers were careless in other ways, also: my door frame was gouged where they ran into it several times with countertop product and my flooring has many nicks in it from them not protecting it well and dropping the product. I had glue on my floor in many places that took me a long time to remove - again, not putting adequate floor protection down. I documented all the issues, informed the owner and her son via voicemail the next morning, and finally heard back from them 3 business days later. I used my own plumber for sink removal and hook up of new one - very happy I did that, as he did not charge me for the extra time he had to spend waiting on the installer-set schedule. I have several areas on the backsplash that show evidence of very sloppy cutting and installation. I have yet to have them replace the pieces, but the owner assured me they would. My schedule has not aligned with theirs yet to do this, as I refuse to allow the original installers back in my home. Bottom line: I am happy with the appearance and so far the durability of the countertops and backsplash. I was not happy with the installation process, and installers lack of professionalism and lack of careful attention to installation and my home. Neither am I impressed with the low priority placed on my repairs."

"I was interested in remodeling my kitchen and was nervous because I’ve heard Some bad stories of bad experiences. Well thankfully I was recommended to abstract countertops because the whole process was very easy and they were very informative and professional. I had them come out and give me a quote on my kitchen and they gave me different options to choose from which were great price ranges. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a new countertops."

FAQs for laminate countertops installation projects in La Vernia, TX

With the right care and a professional installation, laminate counters last 10 to 15 years. Wipe up spills quickly, clean with a nonabrasive product, and keep hot pots off the surface to prevent warping or scorch marks. Limiting prolonged moisture at seams also pays off. Your installer can walk you through simple maintenance habits that will help you squeeze every year out of your new counters.

Yes—if the existing laminate is solid and level, a pro can bond a fresh sheet right on top. They’ll rough up the old surface, apply the correct adhesive, and make precise cuts so the new layer sits tight. Skipping steps can lead to bubbles or weak seams, so this project is best left to an experienced installer who has the tools to deliver a clean, durable finish.

Absolutely, you can give tired laminate a facelift with paint, tile, or a concrete overlay instead of a full tear-out. The key is thorough prep: clean, degrease, and lightly sand so the new finish sticks.

Follow the product instructions for primer, sealers, and cure times, or hire a pro if you’d rather avoid the mess. When done correctly, these updates freshen the look and add a few more years of useful life.

Mix baking soda with just enough water to form a paste, then spread it over the stain and let it sit for five minutes. Wipe away with a soft, damp cloth—don’t scrub, as abrasives can dull the surface. Repeat if needed. For stubborn marks, ask your installer about cleaners made specifically for laminate.

Laminate isn’t built to battle the elements. Water, UV rays, and temperature swings quickly cause swelling, fading, and mold. Even a covered patio won’t protect the material for long. If you’re planning an outdoor kitchen or bar, skip laminate and choose a weather-tough option like stone, tile, or concrete so you don’t end up replacing your counters after the first season.

Traditional laminate isn’t the greenest choice. Most sheets rely on plastics like melamine and can emit trace VOCs over time. They also can’t be recycled at the end of their life. A few brands now use recycled pulp cores, but plastics still make up much of the product.

If sustainability tops your list, consider natural or recyclable materials such as solid wood, stone, or recycled glass instead.
