"GREAT! Got home Friday afternoon and discovered water in the basement. The hose for the drain pan for the water heater was plugged and the pan had holes in it, water everywhere. Shut off the water and started to mop up when I realized - FRIDAY NIGHT = Find a plumber. All closed. Finally found one that was still answering the phone. Plumb Right answered the phone and promised someone in a half hour. Pricing seemed reasonable, what choice did I really have. They were here by 5:30pm and finished around 7:30pm. First plumber got here and started cleaning up and removing the old tank and about 45 minutes later the second plumber showed with the new tank. We had to clean up the water and find a new drain pan and then they corrected the plumbing problems created by the last installation. They really knew what they were doing and took great care to keep the house clean and then cleaned up after themselves. Did I mention that it was below zero. I expected the final bill would be more than they quoted, but it was exactly what they quoted. There was a charge for after hours, but considering the competition (there was none) even my wife was happy. Erik and Devon were super nice and I just stayed out of their way. It was the best experience I have had with a plumber in years."

"I had a French drain installed in my existing basement to deal with water seepage issues. The job took 2 1/2 days and was challenging due to having to work around footers that supported the stairs. The crew moved through each obstacle with speed and efficiency. I was also impressed by how clean they were. They even put up plastic walls to keep dust out of the rest of the basement. When they left, the floor was probably cleaner than when they arrived! With all the recent rain I can now hear the water trickling from the new drain pipe into my sump pit. Much better than on my floor..."

"They had to come in and install a sump pump. The project was very messy but the workers were very nice and friendly. They worked very hard to stay on schedule. My basement turned out perfect and now when it rains my basement stays dry. Very professional and get the job done in a timely manner."

"I purchased my townhouse from an owner who liked to do his own repairs and installs. My kitchen sink must have been a favorite project. In a series of repairs, the drain connection from the dishwasher was moved from the plumbing to the disposal - but the connection was never capped. Imagine the waterworks when part of the drain gets clogged, and the only way out is through the uncapped drain. It was a disturbing sewage-spouting show spraying under my sink. Once I realized the source of the unwanted aquatic display, Twin Cities Pipeworks came to my rescue. Dave repaired all of the “ Mr. Fix-it” specials and left me with the most beautiful plumbing setup. No more sewage surprises ! One of the best relationships you can have is with a good plumber. I am so lucky to have found mine. Thanks, Dave!"

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Lake Elmo, MN

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
