"We've now used Byran from Big Wrench for two very similar jobs, nasty fixes in the very tight crawlspace of our building in N Lawndale. First job we'd already gotten an estimate from a N side plumber we'd worked with before, but their price seemed very high and they didn't really seem to want to do the job. Luckily we found Byran. He took a careful look at the situation and gave a much lower price, which is exactly what he charged. On each job, Byran had to squeeze between joists through an access hole cut into the floor of a utility closet to get to the stacks. On the second job he had to lie on his back under the joists and work with his left hand while his right passed tools and materials over his chest. I watched him work both times (helped a little by passing tools etc) and was impressed at how careful and methodical he was, not just solving the immediate problem but also making it easier to do any future work (rodding etc.) Big Wrench is a one-man shop so bear that in mind, he can't answer the phone while his hands are full of hydraulic cement. Despite that though, I have found him very responsive. Byran is our go-to guy for plumbing, he's more than proven himself. Quality work at a very reasonable price. We also like companies where you deal direct with the owner. Highly recommended!"

"It went great! Patrick came out on a Saturday to see what was causing my line to back up. He used his camera to find mud in a section of my pipe indicating some type of crack or break. Gave me my options for fixing it. He started his repair two days later on Monday and finished up today, Wednesday. They dug roughly, a 4ft by 3ft hole to get down to the pipe and ended up digging two more feet towards the basement to ensure that they connected the new pipe to a solid piece of the existing pipe. Very competitive pricing, I called two other plumbers who were both higher priced by at least 2K and didn't offer as good of a warranty on their work. Very knowledgeable, able to help me understand how my whole sewer system works. Very professional, got the permit with the city, busted the work out, got the job inspected by the city and Closed up the hole. Patrick and his crew were also able to remove a piece of cable that someone previously broke and left in the pipe ( from that machine that rods your line). I highly recommend Patrick and his crew. "My experience with Charlie was great. I accidentally drilled a hole in the gas line that feeds all appliances in our home on a Saturday morning when trying to drill in to hang a TV mount. I knew enough to immediate turn the gas off and call our gas company who came out quickly and locked my meter...this meant no gas to appliances (oven, hot water, dryer, heat, etc.) until it was fixed. I jumped on Angie's list to find someone close who may be able to work weekends, called several places, and left several voicemails.
Charlie was the only one to call back and came over to check out the issue within a couple hours on a Saturday. He looked at everything, provided me with some background info on what he'd need to do, and instructed me on what I could do to make the job go quickly when he returned in the morning. Charlie and Bernie came over Sunday morning and had the pipe repaired within 2 hours max. I was able to get the work inspected that same day and have our gas turned back on.
Charlie was friendly and thorough, and educated me on what he was doing throughout his work. Any time you need "emergency" service on a weekend it's going to be expensive, but I feel that Charlie's price for more than fair for the work done and the quickness in which he came out to fix our problem.

"We had a large graduation party happening on a Sat & realized a bad smell was coming out of the sewer drain of ground floor on Tues. The first estimate told me we needed to dig up the pipe (which was under 1.5ft concrete AND a finished tile floor w/ embedded radiant heat pipes) because there was definitely a hole or a backflow there causing poop sewage to sit in the p-trap and it was an emergency health hazard. The estimate was $4500-7000. I spoke to Trinidad who had called me second and told him what they were advising and he said “why don’t you try just flushing the line yourself with a garden hose and some Clorox or pineal and see what happens, because if there was a hole in the p-bend there would be no water there” plus the smell would have been godawful. So I did that and the smell receded a huge amount. I thought I still smelled it that evening & he estimated a pro flush right away, was responsive fast via text, and I appreciated his honesty greatly."
