Small jobs welcome

"He is very open to questions, communicated the concerns he finds throughout his inspection. He is very timely and does an awesome job. He then finishes it off with a very thorough inspection report that includes pictures and videos of his findings."

"Patrick was incredibly professional and through. We scheduled a home inspection with him, and the night prior he sent us the online permits he found through the township records. During the inspection he tested every single electrical outlet and appliance, and examined the structure of the house for safety and integrity. He was very knowledgeable of current code and gave us suggestions on future improvements to the house, maintenance etc. which was very reassuring as we are first time home owners. The inspection took 7 hours which goes to show how detailed it was. We were greatly pleased with his inspection and recommend him without reservations."

"

it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related.

I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.

Really highly recommend them!

"After testing our radon levels twice and they came back high both times, I contacted Southern Michigan Radon Inc. They came to the house the next day and before he left I received an estimate on the total cost of the system. The next day I met with my neighbor who had a similar system installed by a company in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and his cost was significantly higher. I called Southern Michigan Radon Inc. and awarded them the job. They said they would be there in four days and showed up on the date they said they would be there and completed the job in less than a day. Before the installer left he explained how everything worked and what the meter on the side of the pipe measured. It has worked just fine from the day of installation. I am very happy with the results and it was a professional and timely installation. I highly recommend Southern Michigan Radon Inc. for the installation of radon reduction systems.

"The inspection went very well (as far as Inspector Mike's service was concerned).  He was already up on the roof of the house when my husband and I arrived - and we were about 10 minutes early for our appointment!  He was very patient and explained A LOT, which came in particular handy when this house deal fell through and we had to start hunting again - we knew a bit more about what sorts of things to look for!
His report, except for the results of the radon test, was in my inbox before 7:30 the next morning.  The radon test results were in by March 15th (the test had stopped working and he needed to run it again).
Inspector Mike was very personable and had a good sense of humor.  My husband and I both enjoyed working with him and will definitely keep him in mind for the future.  We'll also be recommending him to our friends and family.

"I google searched radon map view in the Grand Rapids area and called a number of places. This provider had the most thorough checklist of questions about my house, provided the most comprehensive email written quote, has the longest fan warranty (all have lifetime workmanship...but this company is national, so it's more likely to be around) and was the cheapest. Nick was my installer and did a great job and actually recommended and installed a cheaper option than I contracted over the phone. Professional, detailed and provided a lot of good knowledge for me as a homeowner. I'd recommend their service over other more expensive providers."

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Litchfield, MI

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
