"The technician said the problem was an electrical short in the very low-voltage ignition of our Whirlpool water heater. He said this was a Whirlpool design flaw and he had seen this problem before. I was a little skeptical about this, but since he insulated the problematic contacts the water heater no longer mysteriously shuts down.
