"Black Diamond recently came out to do a competitive bid on installing a cleanout line, then doing a hydro jet and descale of the main sewer line in question. On top of being a few hundred dollars cheaper than the original bidder, they found that the original bidder had broken the flange on the toilet when they put it back on and overtightened it. Throughout the process everyone I dealt with was professional, easy to work with, and answered all of my questions. All of that would have been enough for a 5 star review; however, when they got here on the day of the job and went to locate the exact dig space for the line, they found I ALREADY HAD A CLEANOUT LINE (previously most of the estimates had been in ranges based on the original bidder's insistence that this job had to be done, but as it turns out it didn't). That saved me $4,500 on the job, which is pretty awesome! I'm using them for all of our plumbing needs moving forward."

"We contacted Hansen Brothers on the recommendation of our roofers to install the electrical outlet for a roof heat cable and to discuss our front steps project. Until this point, it was difficult to get anyone to accept the front steps project. Masonry contractors would not handle cement and cement contractors would not handle masonry. We needed a general contractor to help and Hansen Brothers came highly recommended. Bob Hansen sent his son over to check on the electrical outlet needs and Bob came to assess the front steps project. He listened to my requests and introduced us to a metal worker who would fabricate the new handrails. We made a railing selection and then we discussed the timing to complete the project. In the interim, Bob's son Eric installed the roof power outlet and back door sconce satisfactorily. We started the big project of the steps replacement mid-September and it took several weeks to complete, there was much to coordinate to get this project done properly. Bob was in constant communication about the progress. We had a bit of a slow down waiting for the cement contractor to deliver the concrete, but once that happened, everything else came together. The final electrical pieces and masonry work were completed shortly after the steps were done.  Everything turned out beautifully!  Bob's experience and familiarity with Chicago homes was evident. He gave sound advice and provided some excellent suggestions with our projects. Our neighbors have also commented on how well things turned out. I would indeed contract with Hansen Brothers again for my home projects and will recommend Bob Hansen to my family and friends. I feel we have finally found a trusted general contractor who is responsive who takes pride in his work.

We needed to have our first floor powder room converted to a full handicap accessible bathroom after my husband was injured in a work accident last summer.  The insurance company asked us to get two estimates.  We found Home Force Builders after reading their excellent reviews on Angie’s List.  Mike returned my phone call promptly and was able to come out within 48 hours.  During the estimate, I explained that in order for my husband to return home, we would need to have a full bath on the main floor.  We had room to expand our bathroom into the hallway and closet space adjacent to it.  Mike took measurements, made a drawing of the new spaces, and listened to and gave me ideas.  He was genuinely concerned for my husband and family, and let me know that he would do whatever it took to get this project finished so that our home would be safe for his return.  Before he left, he gave me names of the vendors that he used so that I could start picking out the tile, vanity, fixtures, etc.  He had a detailed estimate completed a few days later.  It was up to the insurance company to approve the budget and contractor, which took almost two months.  Mike made himself available to start about 2 weeks after the approval (because of Christmas), asking a return client to postpone their project due to the special circumstances of our job.  He even went to the village ahead of time to inquire about getting the permit approved more quickly, and everything was on track to start Dec 28th.  Mike, Tony N and crew were prompt, quiet, neat, and communicated well throughout the whole process.  They started at 8 am every day and finished up around 2:30, even New Year's Eve.  I was home the first week on winter break, and the construction and noise barely disrupted us in our home.  Mike was on site every day, so the same person who I worked on with the estimate and design plans was the one that was on the project, which wouldn’t happen with a larger company.  No detail was missed.  One of my favorite things about our bathroom was a suggestion by Mike, which was an exhaust fan with a Bluetooth speaker.  I would have never thought of it, and it makes for an even more enjoyable shower.  As the project was underway, I requested an extra niche above the toilet, an outlet on the floor under our new couch, and painting our whole laundry room and finishing the trim in that room (instead of just repainting the two affected walls).  They also helped move heavy objects, like a dresser from upstairs and moved and mounted a large taxidermy piece, without a second thought.  Also included in the work was an extra set of handrails to the second floor and railings for the garage entry steps.  My kids were sad when they had to go back to school because they couldn’t watch Mike and Tony work or ask them questions anymore.  The design I had in mind was very specific with the tile layout (not a brick pattern), seamless floor into the shower, teak bench installed, floating vanity… They did everything exactly as I envisioned, and exceeded my expectations with their own design touches, ideas, and beautiful workmanship.  The bathroom is like a spa, with marble tile nicer than any hotel or spa I have ever visited.  The estimate had mid-grade fixtures and materials quoted for the insurance company, and I either bought the luxury items separately or paid for the overages at the end of the job as agreed upon.  I could not have picked a better company to work with.  They went out of their way for my family from the day I first called.  I had a very stressful time working with the insurance company trying to get things approved so that my husband could return home.  They were so easy to work with and accommodating from the quote to the final inspection, I can’t imagine it going any better than it did.  I will absolutely be contacting Home Force Builders in the future for projects and will not hesitate to recommend them to anyone I know.  They made it possible for my husband to return home to continue his recovery with his family, and for that I cannot thank them enough.

"The representative was very professional and friendly, and arrived on time. However, we have not heard back from the representative since then. We emailed them once and called and left a voice mail, but we still have not been contacted by anyone at Slamans. We were initially impressed by the professionalism and the friendliness of the representative who came to obtain information on the porch. However, we cannot recommend Slamans because of poor customer service, and we have no way of evaluating the quality of their work and craft."

"Wonderful! We had five doors in which Darrell removed and dip stripped. We also had a crew come in and strip approximately 17 windows. It took them a little over a week but they stuck with the job and worked very hard. Much better price quote than other companies and excellent quality. Just finished an entire rehab of a house and of the 10 tradesmen we hired, they are one of the three we would happily invite back."
