"It went well. It was wonderful to see a family work together like that father and two sons they got along with. They got the job done. I wanted to pitch in and help myself sometimes just because it's something I used to do. I had to force myself to stand back and just let them do their work. I would absolutely hire them again. It was a pleasure to have them out here. I even cooked them a barbecue one day. It was awesome."

"Lester the owner was on top of the project, he checked in with me on a daily basis and went over the project step by step until completion. I was very satisfied with the quality of work. I had a lot of issues with my back yard with water standing and it was difficult to use the back yard and cut the grass without causing damage. He recommended building French trenches which resolved the issues. The work was done timely and less costly than other companies. I highly recommend him and his team. I gave him 10/10."

"Looks even better than I expected. I figured this would go well after meeting Dave. Knowledgeable, patient, friendly. Then a 14pp proposal with many large drone photos, clear explanations of what to do, and a price for each element. They rebuilt the top 3 layers of chimney brick and the concrete cap, repaired the cracked brick wingwall, and tuckpointed the lot. Replacement bricks matched. Tuckpoint mortar matched. These guy are not just brick masons - they're artists. Crew was courteous and the foreman helpful in guiding me through a couple of minor on-site decisions I needed to make. The final price was just as quoted. Highly recommended!"

"DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!! VERY UNPROFESSIONAL! They started ripping my old counter tops off my cabinets without looking to see how they were attached and broke a couple of my cabinets apart. I stopped them and asked what they were doing, as we were NOT replacing our cabinets and they had broken them apart!!! Then they had to figure out how to REPAIR THE CABINETS before they could install the granite tops. They had 2 cabinet tops cut to the wrong sizes. I told them it looked like they had just put them in the wrong place because, if they switched them around, it looked like they would fit. The contact person told me "they don't make mistakes"! and did not give the installers permission to swap them. The contact person was EXTREMELY RUDE AND NASTY!!! Though she was very pregnant, there was no reason for such POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Even though I had discussed my concern that they look at the granite carefully and cut it to look best in my kitchen, and there were spots on the granite I had indicated not to be used, they were. I was told by the owner that there were no instructions supplied to the granite cutters, the contact person didn't write anything down as she had said she would. The spots I didn't want in my counters were right smack in the middle of my counters and very noticeable! I had a very large portion of the second slab I purchased left over, and they used it to re-cut the 2 counter tops that were done wrong. They cut one with the grain of the granite going the wrong way. The contact person argued that the granite didn't have a grain to it and it was fine. Well, everyone that "saw" it, and she had not, said the grain is going in a different direction and it WAS noticeable. So, I had to insist the owner come out and see it. He did and apologized profusely for her behavior, agreed the grain was noticeable, and had to have the counter top re-cut a SECOND time. Using up more of my granite again. Later, when I contacted them to have them use some of my leftover granite for a small counter in my laundry room, the owner did not return my calls. I was given very expensive pricing by the contact person, and told that I should buy a new piece of granite from them as the piece I had was no longer large enough to make the small counter top. I told them they should give me a good price considering THEY screwed up my kitchen and used up all my granite re-cutting 3 counter tops, and now they expect me to buy more granite from them??? I again requested to have the owner call me, and 3 weeks later, have still not heard from him. I have hired another company who is installing granite for me at 1/2 the cost Direct Marble and Granite quoted me and I am sure will do a much more professional job!!! DO NOT USE this company!!!"

"Marcus did an excellent job! He was attentive, professional, and efficient. He completed the job beyond our expectations. He was well priced - and priced the job and not the neighborhood. He was upfront and transparent. Would recommend him and definitely would hire again."

"Joel was great! I reached out last fall, just before the first snowfall. I sent Joel a few pictures and he provided an estimate via email within a day. He also sent several pictures from similar jobs to give me an idea of what the finished project would look like. The team that did the work was polite and cleaned up the work area each evening. My new steps look fantastic! Well worth the money."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Maplewood, MN

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
