"Horrible. We chose this garage door retailer because we thought it was knowledgeable. Over & over again, we received information that was a moving target. First, we almost walked away from buying doors after a sales rep. told us that they only came in semi-gloss. We had told the sales rep. from Day One that we wanted doors that replicated our matte doors. Oh, wait, we can order doors in a matte brown color! We moved ahead with signing a proposal that comprised manual garage doors (not automatic.) Over & over again, I told the sales that we wanted a receipt of our down payment and he agreed to this. When he appeared onsite at our home to review the proposal, he signed the *proposal* as our receipt. This happened after I asked him (and he agreed) to give us a receipt. It was **only** after my husband demanded a real receipt that Door Works sent us one. After we signed the proposal with information about locks being placed on the door, we learned that the door locks that get place"

Offices in Northern NJ, Westchester, Nassau, Suffolk, Orange, Rockland, Putnam, Ulster, and Dutchess Counties in New York and Fairfield County, CT. We provide garage door service when it’s convenient for you. Angie's List Super Service Award Winners 10 Consecutive years. All phone calls answered 24/7. Weekends available at no extra charge. All technicians are drug and background checked. Cost is determined by the job. FREE estimates on new garage doors. Service fees may apply. No extra charge for after-hours service.
"Do not work with these people. They come out and recommend replacement of all the springs on the door, plus replaceing all the bearing wheels. When you don't go along with their recommendations they roll all the costs into the work that you are having done. In this case, one spring and installation, $450. Got it done by another company for half of that, $210. Called them to complain, their excuse was they are a bigger company and their prices are higher. The customer should not have to pay for their company being bigger. Very, very, disappointed in their approach and professionalism."

"Dave provided my wife and me a quote for renovations, and once we agreed, he began the demolition work. The crew knocked down the walls and installed new sheetrock in both the kitchen and bathrooms. We also decided to cut down the sewer pipes and install new PVC pipes. During this process, the first incident occurred when his crew used the bathroom and flushed the toilet, which caused all the waste to flow into the basement due to the unconnected pipes. Dave assured us he would handle the situation, only for us to discover that he charged a purchase of Resolve to our credit card to address the issue. We gradually bought all the necessary materials using a credit card supplied by my wife, while I also went online to shop at stores like Home Depot and Mayfair. After a little over a month, he finished the upstairs bathroom. In the kitchen, he managed to install the cabinets in time for the countertops to be placed. However, while the kitchen sink was installed, the plumbing was not connected to the water supply. Likewise, the kitchen appliances were not hooked up: the dishwasher remained unconnected, the refrigerator was not installed, and the smart thermostat was never set up. Only the stove and the hood range were connected. After he installed the new PVC pipes, I ran the water for a few minutes to test the plumbing. Unfortunately, we experienced flooding in our basement. Water spilled out from our old sewer line, which had not been capped, as well as from the sewer clean-out and all the way upstairs where the kitchen plumbing was not connected. This flooding caused our wood floors in the kitchen to warp and damaged the basement, potentially leading to mold issues. I confronted Dave several times about helping us clean up and remove the damaged carpets, but he failed to show up for two weeks. Eventually, we decided to terminate his services and sought professional help from other contractors. We hired Poseidon Plumbing and have evidence of debris and blockages resulting from the work done by Wise Choice Construction LLC. Additionally, we had to pay for electrical and roofing professionals on top of the plumbing costs to rectify this unfortunate situation."

Also, I had asked him to examine the other garage door and because I had noticed some irregular movement on that side and the technician found the problem and replaced the pulley on that side. The costs for both the jobs were very reasonable and the technician was very personable and professional."

Look for specific performance issues that suggest sensor problems. If your garage door begins to close but then reverses immediately, refuses to close completely, or operates inconsistently, your sensors may be failing. Check the indicator lights on your sensors—properly functioning units typically display steady lights (often one red and one green). Flashing or unlit indicators generally signal problems. If adjusting and cleaning the sensors doesn't resolve these issues, replacement is likely necessary.
The lifespan of garage door sensors varies significantly based on usage patterns, environmental conditions, and product quality. Factors that can reduce longevity include exposure to moisture, accumulation of dust and debris, physical impacts, and electrical surges. Regular maintenance—particularly keeping the sensor lenses clean and ensuring proper alignment—can help maximize their functional life. When sensors begin to fail repeatedly despite maintenance efforts, replacement typically offers the most reliable solution.
Compatibility between new sensors and existing garage door openers depends on several factors. Many current sensor models are designed to work with older opener systems, but it's essential to verify compatibility before purchase. Your opener's user manual or manufacturer's website should list compatible sensor models. In some cases, adapters or additional wiring may be necessary to connect newer sensors to older systems. Consulting with a garage door professional can help identify the most compatible replacement options for your specific setup.
Postponing the replacement of malfunctioning sensors creates significant safety hazards. Without proper sensor function, your garage door may close unexpectedly on vehicles, possessions, pets, or family members. The potential for property damage and personal injury makes timely sensor replacement a priority. Additionally, operating a door with faulty sensors places extra strain on the opener mechanism, potentially leading to more extensive and expensive repairs in the future.
Industry experts recommend inspecting and testing your garage door sensors approximately every three months. A simple test involves initiating door closure and then waving an object (like a broom handle) through the sensor path. The door should immediately stop and reverse if sensors are functioning correctly. Regular testing helps identify potential issues before they lead to complete sensor failure or safety hazards. If your door fails this test, first try cleaning the sensor lenses and checking their alignment before considering replacement.
