"My first time working with Near Me Roofing Company and his team but it will not be the last. I have several rental homes and price but more importantly quality work is very important for my investments. From my first interaction the team did a great job estimating and replacing a roof that had major storm damage from a tree falling on it. They replaced the entire roof materials as well as repaired a bunch of the roof decking. Everything was done quickly, with great quality and even the clean up of all of the old materials was spotless. Easy breezy for sure!"

"I guess I caught them on them on a bad day. 90% of the job was good, there was a couple of areas that to my view was just sloppy. Josh did come back twice to correct the areas of concern. He was mostly prompt and polite in answering my emails, though one day I stayed home because I was told he would show up, but did not, nor did he let me know he was held up. Clean up was so-so, they used an air blower, there was metal trimmings left on the deck, not good for the dogs. For me there was too much aggravation to hire them again."

"Adrian and Zeke did such an awesome job on our deck! ? They?re super friendly, easy to work with, and really pay attention to every little detail. You can tell they take a lot of pride in their work. The deck came out perfect! If you?re looking to hire a family-owned company that actually cares about quality and doesn?t charge you an arm and a leg like some of the big guys, these are your people. Couldn?t recommend them enough! ?"

"Rafael called immediately once I asked for a bid through Angi, he and Sara arrived early for the bid appointment, they anticipated all of my questions and concerns, and gave me a bid and timeline at that time. His team had the old deck out and new deck built in two days, all done the right way, and cleanup was perfect. They came back for the final walkthrough and I was, and am two weeks later, still 100% satisfied with their work. Rafael (and team) did what he said he would do. I am already recommending RT Total Lawn Care to people I know with projects."

"As a whole, this company became part of our family. They cared about the well-being of my parents. They came in and cleaned up a mess that another contractor left. The mess was not minor by any means. My dad had Alzheimers and my my mom was recovering from a major car accident and also has cancer. My parents' home had a flooded and was left by the previous contractors destroyed and down to the studs. Cedarbrook came in and repaired what was broken, replaced what was destroyed, and put my parents' house back together in 5.5 months after a year of nothing being done by the other company. We will always now and forever use this company and refer them to anyone who is looking for a trusted, honest, and competent contractor. You won't be disappointed."

"Sean and Jesse were fantastic. We contracted with them to replace our deck and build a custom railing. They were patient and kind and their attention to detail was off the charts. We will be requesting them for the next phase of the project when we extend the deck next summer."

Customers say: Quality work

"Tim and his crew were very efficient and did such a quality job. It is always nice when you get to work with someone who specializes in their industry's knowledge, and gives you all of the options without being pushy. I would highly recommend them! We were also working with a portion of the job that was shared with a neighbor, and getting the quotes split up for that was very easy. "

FAQs for deck or porch projects in Marysville, WA

To maximize your budget, compare quotes of several builders that fit within your specifications. Don’t be afraid to draw a wider geographic circle if the contractor is willing to travel without charging more. But affordability only matters if you get a quality deck out of it.

Cutting corners or simply finding the cheapest pro could result in significant problems. The materials used may be cheap and rot quickly. The support the surface provides might be unstable and dangerous. Always consider the long-term costs and benefits of quality work. Paying less upfront may actually be more expensive if you consider the cost of repairs.

Deciding on which materials you should use depends entirely on the type of deck you’re looking for. Composite works well for a simple surface exposed to harsh elements, while concrete is the standard choice for many patios. Your decking material options can range from wood to aluminum. Learn about the pros and cons of these materials to make the right decision.

You can build a deck during any season, which is why choosing the right time for this project depends on your preferences:

  • Spring: get your deck ready in time for landscaping and to enjoy it throughout the warmer seasons.

  • Summer: use spring for the planning process, then get the project ready before it gets cold out.

  • Fall: Limit turf or landscape damage by building once most plants begin to recede.

  • Winter: make the excavation process easier, thanks to cold and firm ground.

Many deck builders prefer winter, which is also the season with the shortest waiting queues. Still, other seasons are far from impossible for this type of project.

Expect a thorough examination of the space, and the development of a project schedule. Delivery of materials might already have occurred or could be planned at this point.

Additional research about working with deck builders can help you understand what to expect from experts, and what they expect from you.

Make sure the site of the deck or patio is clear of any landscaping and debris. The contractor will also call a utilities locator service to mark power, water, cable, and other services around the area where they will be digging. The cleaner the area your builder has to work with, the more quickly they can get started. Make sure they have space to park any construction vehicles. Find a dry space for materials that might need storage during the install. Finally, ensure clear access to the site through your house or property.

When it comes to the DIY vs. hire a pro decision for your deck, the answer tends to be clear. Only take it on yourself if you have significant expertise and experience. Without either, you risk building a faulty exterior space, leading to injury risks. Projects built without necessary expertise also break more quickly, making them more expensive in the long run.

If you do want to take on decking as a DIY project, be sure to do your research. Learn about installing the posts and footing for your framing. Understand how to lay decking boards and build the railings and stairs you need for access and security.
