Very prompt and communication was constant. He got my drains all cleaned out, but found a break in my line which needed to be repaired. He identified where the exact location of the break and was very helpful working with the excavator to get my line repaired. "Jeff Michrina is the owner of JAM Home Services, managing via subcontracting work in paint, flooring, carpentry, kitchens and bathrooms according to his business card. He was prompt in responding to my request for an in-house assessment and quote. He arrived at his appointed time, was friendly, patient and offered an easily understood explanation of his work background & ethic. As we made a walk-through of the house, Jeff made notes and suggested wall repair specifics, scuff sanding of wooden bannisters, color options and best paint for the job (Sherman-Williams super paint). He explained that the paint job would be done by a 3-4 man crew with one person serving as lead. Unlike other company owners, Jeff did not use a computer. His quote was hand-written. Be prepared to wait more than a day or two to obtain a written quote. An additional 4% surcharge is added for credit card only payments as well, according to the written material. On the appointed day, four crew members arrived a bit early, and seemed to huddle before knocking on the front door. It was pretty clear that all four had bonded over the course of working together. We then met Fred (lead) who did the ceiling work, caulking and repairs; Will whose precision in cutting closely around light fixtures and edging was highly valued; David who concentrated on the doors, and wood working; and Matt who was new so painted the garage and basement drywall. When one completed his job, he went on to help another. Each member of the crew was polite, kind and seemed to enjoy working in the group. They worked tirelessly, taking only a 30 minute afternoon lunch. All heavy furniture was moved by them and then replaced. At the end of each day, surfaces were wiped down, floors swept and the areas were cleaned up. Used materials where either returned to the work truck, or bagged and placed neatly in an area for trash pick up. At the end of each day, the lead Fred and I did a walk through inspection of the day's work. Jeff also stopped by each day to talk to the lead, the crew and inspect the job. The entire job was completed in less than half the time that was originally estimated!"

"They also do plumbing. Everything is top notch there too. The first time they came it turned out we had to make an insurance claim before he could make the repair. He waived the inspection fee and we got the insurance claim done. The insurance hired clean up people. What happened was that house has 3 levels and the lowest level is slightly below grade and it requires a sewage ejection pump to get things up to the septic system. The sewage ejection pump failed and there was raw sewage in the basement."

"I originally consulted Angie's List to find someone to replace two old and decrepit gate post lights at my home. I decided to go with Lombardo Restoration when I noticed the coupon to replace up to ten wall outlets for $349. My home was built in 1946 and has gone through numerous slap-dash facelifts which left many of the outlets painted over and virtually unusable, so I thought I'd take advantage of the offer. My first online contact with LR was very positive and reassuring, and when Len and his co-worker appeared at my home they both proved friendly, outgoing, and energetic. I quickly learned that these guys know their business and work hard to get a job done right. They went through the electrical work like a knife through butter. Nothing slowed them down. When I talked to Len about rebuilding the gate posts he stated that the job would be a little costly because it would be time consuming. But the cost he quoted me was far below what I expected, and I told him to go ahead. After they'd been at it for well over five hours I became a little concerned about cost, knowing what the hourly price for two workers could be, but when they were all finished after well over eight hours everything, including all the wall outlets, came to a mere $850.
Leonard's a big and friendly young guy who likes to talk, and I admit that upon first encountering him I thought he was primarily the salesman for LR. But I quickly learned that he knows his trades. Both he and his co-worker are highly skilled and motivated workers who are very familiar with older houses such as my own, presumably from years of experience working with homes in Detroit.
Leonard's business approach may be somewhat more informal than many other contractors, particularly those involved largely with insurance claims. There were no contracts to sign or itemized receipts. I'd tell him what I wanted, he'd give me a projected cost, and he'd make good on the estimated price. This is largely contrary to what homeowners are told they should do when dealing with contractors. But Lombardo Restoration has proven to me to be a skilled and trustworthy outfit. I'm willing to take Len at his word, because I believe that if he doesn't do the job completely to my satisfaction he'd take steps to fix it within a reasonable cost. I highly recommend this contractor.
