"This review is long overdue. I contacted Sealpro Mahwah because I have seen their work in several driveways in the neighborhood. I can literally see why they are recommended. Their work looked very good on every driveway that i saw. I contacted the business and response time was very good. I spoke w Lou and he was upfront, honest and very nice. We discussed work that needed to be done- sealcoating and crack fills. We were able to negotiate the quote. I admit the quote was not the lowest of the three bids I received from companies BUT Lou seemed the most upfront of what we could expect. I was comfortable on price we landed on and very happy I went with SealPro. I have recommended to my neighbors and would use them again. Thank you to Lou, his crew and everybody at SealPro."

"From this site, I've learned that Eddie has passed away. Most sorry to hear. Unfortunately, he recently did some work (basement waterproofing which is failing). I see that Kastina z. and Jason L. have situations where they need to get in touch with someone. I would be willing to speak to either of you or others. Please let me know."

"I had them to redo my whole roof 1.5 year ago and I found a piece of shingle fell off recently. I contacted the owner and they stood behind their work and promise. He quickly scheduled a follow-up and sent his team to fix it in a short period of time. In these days you can easily find any contractors do the work and work away with your money. However once the job is done, you will never see them again when there are any issues. This will not happen to Hi Tech Contracting as they are professional, responsible and trustworthy. Highly recommended!"

"Stop your contractor search immediately and call Bernard at Tool Time! We added a basement bathroom and could not be happier with the entire process from start to finish. Bernard gave me a more than fair quote and started the job right on time, as scheduled. The communication among us and Bernard was clear and concise. But the best part of the process was the execution of his employees, Lambert and Julian. These guys are the real deal! They're respectful of the property, communicate wonderfully every step of the way, worked tirelessly until the job was done to perfection. I cannot stress enough how amazing this process was from start to finish. CALL TOOL TIME NOW...you will not be disappointed. I can't wait to start the next project with Bernard!"

"The firm leads with a reasonable design and installation service. Afterward the practice is a horrible experience. You will hate this company’s rip offs. To get add-on lights, the price is double. To get repairs, and I am talking about a nine month old installation, the company’s office person says outages are caused by landscapers and animals breaking the underground lines. So the company charges $500 for two workers to enter the property for 2 hours minimum @$125 per hour. In my case, one of three zones was completely out which I explained. They spent the first 10 minutes looking over the two good zones and five minutes later found the problem, a failed electric outlet. They were in and out in 15 minutes. Effective cost was $2000 per hour. I offered to pay $100 and then pay another $500 for them to come back for their annual maintenance. There answer was no, we will be happy to take this $500 and another $500 to do the service. Their contractual terms also disavows responsibility for consequential damage to the property and forces the customer to agree to pay thousands more if you pay late. These are not good or fair people. Before you buy, ask for references from 5 year old installations."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Melville, NY

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
