"We hired Sealpro to seal our driveway and install a drain in front of our garage. We were very pleased with the work done. Lou was great to deal with. He was easy to communicate with and was very professional. He made sure that we, as his clients, were satisfied with the job done."

"Eddie of General Brick Designs did a fantastic job building a gravel driveway at my summer house. He lives up to his rave online reviews. He is a great communicator and friendly. He is prompt and thorough. He immediately understood the look I wanted and told me how to achieve it in a way that would be easiest to maintain. He explained to me how a gravel driveway is engineered and carefully talked through the challenges of my space, which needed grading so that water wouldn’t pool in the center. Once I decided to hire him, he got to work ASAP and finished ahead of schedule. The driveway looks terrific. I know that if I have any questions or issues, I can call Eddie and he’ll respond right away. He’s now my go-to guy for masonry or paving work. I’ll encourage my friends to use him. Heck, I’d probably call him for advice on stuff unrelated to paving. He’s that good. Hire him. You won’t regret it!"

"I hired Konop Quality Corp (Jarek) to build a patio and walkway made up of pavers <br /> in my <br /> backyard. He was very <br /> easy to work with and explained the differences in the various companies’ <br /> products. His price was affordable and reasonable. After picking the type of paver I wanted, he <br /> and his crew spent about four days installing the patio. They arrived promptly and worked diligently <br /> to get the job done. Their work was meticulous and every day they left the site <br /> neat and as clean as possible, taking away the debris when they left. The finished product looks beautiful. <br /> I also needed repairs on my front brick steps. One of Jarek’s workers took care of <br /> this. Unfortunately, after they left, I <br /> realized that the job was not done correctly or completely. Jarek returned, apologized, and completely <br /> corrected the problem, leaving my front steps in excellent condition. I would very highly recommend Jarek and Konop <br /> Quality Corp and would definitely use them again for any work of this type. <br />"

"Found this company on yelp and after meeting with a few other contractors we decided to go with them based on peer reviews and pricing. We initially just wanted to have some ac sleeves removed and bricked up since we were planning to upgrade to ductless ac but after meeting with Kamran we decided to get our flat roof refinished as well. They showed up on time and completed the work quickly, while they have had great reviews in the past years I feel that either I am expecting too much or their workmanship is no longer the same as before. I will let the pictures do the talking."

"So after a long search for a good contractor I went with Bernard and his team. I wanted to expand a 1/2 bathroom that I had, expand my tiny half closet, and refinish my basement. Everything looked like it was from the 60s and it was very dark. The bathroom was extremely tiny where it just barely fit a toilet and vanity. Bernard was very knowledgable and easy to talk too. He was always ready to help answer any questions I had either through text messages or phone calls. We sketched out the plan of how I wanted the bathroom designed, and then he gave me a list of materials I needed to buy. His men were definitely professionals in their trade (plumbing, electrical, tiling, etc). I watched each day as things progressed and they really took pride in their work to make things look perfect. Lampert one of the main workers was there just about everyday and he too was able to explain why I needed certain things or how things worked. Each of the workers helped give me some other ideas as the project continued through. They were there everyday at 7 am except for Sundays and had all my work done in 2 weeks and a half. I was very pleased and would definitely hire Bernard and team again for future projects. I'm very happy with how everything came out. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for renovations."

"This was our second time hiring Kevin (had done kitchen back splash a few months prior). We knew we wouldn't be disappointed. His work is clean, precise, and detailed...he truly and genuinely cares about how it turns out and makes sure everything is perfect. My new bathroom is my favorite room in the house. We've gotten tons of compliments. Besides the work being immaculate, Kevin is a pleasure to have around. Being that you spend time in your own home with someone working can sometimes can be difficult and awkward, Kevin's presence was comfortable and we enjoyed getting to know him. He is extremely trustworthy, as we left him the key to our home on days where we would be out or at work. He was kind and personable to our whole family and was understanding and flexible with our dog being out and around while he worked. For the jobs that needed outside professionals like a plumber or electrician, he had fantastic recommendations that were reasonable and easy to work with as well. We will definitely be calling Kevin when we are ready to delve into a new project. Thanks again, Kevin!"

"After interviewing several hardscape contractors to perform a sizeable backyard remodel we went with Bongiornos Contracting. From the first step through each succeeding phase of the project I found both Chuck and C.J to be super knowledgeable and very receptive to all our concerns. They offered valuable insight in choosing the materials, the paver layout and the garden wall height/layout. The team of installers showed up every day promptly and while parking on my block was tight with the pallets of materials and trucks they did their best to minimize the disruption to my neighbors. The paver work, including the inlay and border pavers, was outstanding and exceeded expectations. A few minor hiccups occurred which is normal for a job this size but all were taken care of to my complete satisfaction. I would not hesitate to recommend Bongiornos contracting to anyone looking for a company that produces some truly exceptional work"

"we are so happy with the results. we love how beautiful the yard is now. scott and crew came and worked their tails off. planted shrubs along 3 sides of the yard that were barren before. installed a patio in back under the existing trees also. in addition he took an existing flower bed and replanted them among the new shrubs, what a huge amazing difference I absolutely love how it turned out. scott and crew are easy to deal with and deserve their sterling reputation. I would recommend scott to anyone I know who is looking to transform their dreary yard into a yard where you can be proud of. love love love the new yard. many thanks to scott and his fine crew!!! id like to apologize for the late review this work was done in may and have been lax at writing it. it is well deserved. thank you again scott."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Melville, NY

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
