"I was looking to hire someone to lay down a new gravel drIveway and Absolute was the first to reach out and the best bang for my buck. Kieth and his team stayed focused at the task at hand. They were all very open to any concerns and readily corrected or went with the flow of any changes during the project. Awesome and very pleased with the final product."

"Well we started a year ago just about talking about the project. Matt was very helpful by first listening to our opinions and and making good suggestions at several points during the process. He thought about what we ask and tried very hard to make available samples of materials and adapted to our asks as the process progressed. We had a number of bad weather interruptions (think NOAH) but Matt and crew got back to work when things improved. We are delighted with the arena, and it stood up to the test of heavy rain by draining well so Martin sand and Gravel did the job right. No job is without its challenges, but even months after the job was completed Matt kept his promises and fixed several minor details that I had deferred but he kept reminding me he needed to make right. That means a lot to me. Pictures are from November- through great Freeze! Now all greened up and dry. Thanks MR. Martin."

"<p>Chris's crew showed up as scheduled on 2 occasions and were courteous, easy to work with,  very quick and efficient.</p> <p>Chris is good at working with clients to find a workable solution to problems.   I had a small detail on finishing that he did not follow up on, but I was able to fix the issue myself in 15 minutes for about $4, so this was very minor.  Overall, we are very pleased with the work and the price.</p> <p>I would definitely recommend him for the type of work he did for me.  He will be my first call for any type of concrete or stone work in the future.</p> <p><br></p>"

"I contracted Fort Worth Yard Man because I saw the quality job they were doing at a home close to me. My yard was in really bad shape because the type of grass I had didn’t survive in shady conditions and the rabbits made my lawn their home. Fort Wort Yard Man arrived a little late because they were finishing another job but Maribel kept me informed the entire time. Their team removed the old sod, added top soil, installed the new sod and rolled the lawn to ensure it was level. Their team were very efficient; professional and friendly and completed the job when promised. They also watered the lawn prior to leaving and also provided care instructions and followed up to see if I had any issues. It is for these reasons I highly recommend Fort Worth Yard Man."

"Mike at Hillman Outdoor Living was very professional and easy to work with. The work was done in a timely matter and the finished product was exactly as promised. The stone retaining wall, flagstone patio, outdoor kitchen and pergola turned out perfect. He also stuck to his original quote so there were no surprises to the price. We will definitely be using Hillman Outdoor again in the future! We are very pleased with the work."

"In every dimension they wildly exceeded my greatest expectations. The stone work was perfection. They trenched and set each stone in concrete and then applied the mortar. After the mortar had set up they hand brushed and smoothed each joint. They had come by the week befor and killed all the grass. They removed the grass, added top soil and tilled it in. They sought my input on plant location and made sure I was satisfied and installed 2-3 inches of mulch when done. As for the Palram polycarbonate roof on my patio the installation was highly detailed and the toughest part was trimming the 45 foot curved edge. Travis said this was his 40th install but his toughest challenge finishing out the curved edge. All I can say is he nailed it. He even went back and hand trimmed the edge in order to remove the flashing leaving a perfect edge. Once he was done he water tested the roof to ensure there were no leaks. Nine years earlier they had installed a stone & boulder landscaing along the front of my house. Over time some of the mortar joints had cracked. They removed the cracked mortar and reploaced it at no additional charge. This is a company that takes pride in their work and it shows in everything they do from design, to installation to clean up. They covered details I would not have even thouht to address. I didn't take roofing pictures or the front stone work but it turned out great. Three of my neighbors were so impressed they are getting bids for their yards."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Midlothian, TX

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
