"Getting a walk in tub is expensive no matter who you use. My experience thus far is with installation only and I must say my install went great. It has been over a month and no issues with my tub so I cannot comment on repair process with American Standard."

"We had 2 bathrooms redone and are very happy with the final product! Our team, lead by Tate, was very professional and responded to errors and changes very graciously and promptly. The downstairs bathroom was made with a zero entry floor and I had them put a track system on the ceiling for a curtain since the space was small and I didn't want any glass. I have elderly parents and needed ease of use in the space. They stripped it down to the studs and put waterproofing on the entire floor, dropped the shower floor down to the joists and poured a custom shower pan. No curbs to trip on. In the Master, they removed my old huge jacuzzi tub, stall shower and block window, removed the wall and expanded my linen closet. Took out my old vanity and toilet and had a custom vanity built with A quartz countertop that we went and picked out at Stone. There were a few bumps here and there but the team met each challenge with a positive attitude and made sure I was satisfied with every step along the way. We are very happy with both bathrooms and will hire them again to do another bathroom in 2026."

"Kyle and Alex did a fantastic job of changing our old tub/shower combination to a walk-in shower and we love it. Our install date was moved up by four days as our material came in early, so that gave us a few extra days to enjoy as my husband is recovering from mobility issues. They worked great together and were super respectful of our home while here, which was less than 7 hours - will definitely request them for the next bathroom renovation."

"Although we had to wait approximately 6 weeks for the installation it was well worth it. Work was well worth the wait. Our Installer called every day to provide eta, always let me know at the end of the day what the next day plan was. Always cleaned up at the end of the each day. End result was beyond expectations. Adjustment was needed on the shower door one week later, and the installer came out on the weekend to make adjustment."

"Worst Experience Ever.I contracted with the company to do a complete remodel of my master bathroom and powder room. In the master bathroom, they were to remove the tub, install a tiled shower in its place, tile floor, new vanity, vent fan, install fixtures, plumbing etc. I supplied all materials for the job. I have never been involved in such a remodeling disaster before and this is not my first major remodeling. I did due diligence, searched Angie's List (2018 superstar?) and got a reference for a similar job. I signed the contract and things went downhill from there. Slated to start 5/6/2019, picked out vanity and made arrangements to visit counter top fabricator for selection in March. All material selected and ordered timely although questions regarding quantity of tile and other items had to be made repeatedly before a response was received. I spent time coordinating everything to the cabinets when they showed up with the wrong cabinet. Turns out the cabinets I had ordered (two different finishes) were no longer available and I would have to select another color. Delay. And these vanities do not have as durable a finish on them. They pulled the old bathtub out and; it sat like a rusting hulk in my driveway for 3 weeks preventing us from parking in the driveway. We asked about it and were told that a pick up would be scheduled. The only thing that happened was after 3 weeks, my husband and I broke up the cast iron tub into pieces small enough to put in the dumpster. At least I could park close enough to get the groceries in the house. The shower pan they ordered was the wrong size. I lost some space there as they tore out the wall board and built out the space to match the shower pan they ordered. They grossly over-estimated how much tile was necessary and delayed work for so long I missed the ability to return any of it. I had enough floor tile left to re-tile another room. The workers only come sporadically - the estimated completion was 6/10/19. Completion did not occur until August 13. The shower leaked, it took them two weeks to fix. The grout in the shower floor did not set properly, over two weeks to come back. I got an email saying go ahead and use the shower it won't hurt anything. Except every time you ran water in the shower bits of grout floated down the drain. They tried to fix by putting caulk in the lines (the shower floor had 3 different grout colors) but I found that unacceptable. They were scheduled to come on August 8, but did not show until the following week. Never received communication, in fact they were frequently scheduled to show but didn't....again no one thinks to notify the homeowner. At various times, I completed their incomplete work just to get it done. Painting not completed (door trim, linen closet shelves), they assembled the cabinets in my dining room floor with glue, hammer, nails and no drop cloth on my antique oriental rug. My son and I spent a year renovating his house and use multiple contractors from Angie's list to complete the work. I've left a number of stellar reviews for those vendors as their work and professionalism were high. This contractor, however, despite their rating was a disaster."

"Trent and his crew were all very professional and did an amazing job. Our addition had been started by another contractor several years ago but never completed. Trent made sure everything was properly done and if it wasn't his crews fixed what needed to be fixed until it was done right. After correcting the things that needed fixing they laid all the flooring, tiled the shower, finished the plumbing, HVAC, and wiring, put in the fixtures, painted, built a deck and enlarged our driveway , put in new gutters and gutter guards and some other stuff. The work is too notch and we wholeheartedly recommend them. Their customer service was also great. We have already hired them to do some painting, carpeting and repair work in the main house part of it to start in the fall and the rest early next year per our time frame on when we want the work done. Definitely a great company to work with and highly recommend."

FAQs for walk in tub installation and replacement projects in Midlothian, VA

Because Medicare classifies walk-in tubs as non-durable medical equipment, it generally won’t pick up the tab. Medicaid can help if a doctor certifies that the tub is medically necessary, but rules change by state. Call your plan early, ask which forms you need, and keep any prescriptions or letters on file to improve your odds of reimbursement.

A walk-in bathtub’s fill and drain times hinge on your home’s water pressure and the tub’s hardware. Most models with a fast-fill faucet need about six to eight minutes to fill and two to three minutes to drain; larger basins or standard drains can tack on an extra 10 minutes. Stay seated until the water is completely gone so you don’t swing the door open on a full tub’s worth of water.

A walk-in bathtub holds 50 gallons of water, and its design supports capacities that range from 40 to 80 gallons, depending on the product. In contrast, a standard bathtub holds 25 to 45 gallons. This capacity is determined by the fixed design of the tub and its construction materials. Homeowners should review the detailed product specifications to confirm the exact volume available for use during bath time.

Walk-in tubs are tax-deductible when the purchase qualifies as a necessary medical expense and meets the IRS criteria. Caregivers who install a walk-in tub also qualify for the Dependent Care Tax Credit under specific conditions. Homeowners must verify these requirements with the IRS and consult a tax professional, as state and program guidelines enforce strict documentation standards for such deductions.
