"It was perfect. He responded to my request for an estimate immediately. He came that afternoon and stuck to the estimate even though we added a few things that was not there the first time. Communication was excellent, he came on time, and took everything that we agreed and more. Perfect service overall."

Small jobs welcome

"We were very happy with Cruger Contracting. They removed our old walkway and installed a new one with Cambridge pavers. It looks beautiful! He also took out our old overgrown bushes. He was very helpful with suggestions about the best plants for our space. He?s very knowledgeable about plants and landscaping. James was very responsive to all our questions. He is conscientious and takes pride in his work. He even did more than we asked! Most importantly, he came when he said he would or called to let us know if he was running late. As anyone knows who has dealt with contractors before that is too often a rarity. He and his crew worked very hard and we were very pleased with the end result. We highly recommend James and his crew. "

"I had an excellent experience working with Noah and his team on a deck build along with a series of door install / remodeling jobs. Noah was responsive and respectful throughout the whole process and helped provide me with a number of different options to come up with the best solution to fit our needs. His team was professional on the job and performed top++ quality work throughout. I plan on working with Noah and his team more over the coming years on additional remodeling projects for our home and couldn't recommend them highly enough for any and all custom build projects."

"I hired Mike because I wanted to support a family business?he seemed very nice, until he showed up with his young son, no older than 12, and had him sealing the driveway, no mask, and fully exposed to the fumes. I told Mike politely that I did not feel comfortable with his young son doing the work, and he immediately took offense, saying that he had been sealing driveways since he was ?8 years old? and saw no harm in it?then told me he would never have started my job & would never work for me again. Very rude and nasty, considering my only concern was for his young child. He said he used ?environmentally friendly? materials, but I very much doubt breathing in those fumes all day is harmless. It?s his child of course, but I hoped he would think about what he was exposing him to. I allowed him to finish the job, but I wouldn?t want to hire him again because I?d much rather my money went to someone who cares more about their child?s health than making money."

"I had my front steps of my house done. The job was poorly done. When I asked if my steps were going to look like that when it was completed, I was told yes. He told me all my steps were different sizes. What he failed to say was he cut them wrong. So he lied to cover up the mistake.Because of the slabs being cut incorrectly he put pieces on the end of the slabs to fill in the gaps. It looks like a bad puzzle. Terrible job. Not professional at all. I’m so disappointed that I wasted my money on this company. I do not recommend them at all."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Millbrook, NY

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
