"The chimney flue was repaired and the chimney inspected in July. I had then come back the end of August to replace the cement chimney crown, tuck point the chimney above the roof line and install a flue damper cap."

"Great. Though the chimney is on the third floor and difficult to reach, Utmost quoted a price that was about one-third the estimate another company had given me. At my request, they also shortened the chimney since it no longer serves a purpose."

"Did full inspection; chimney liner too small and in process of checking, found the liner wasn’t even secured. Crew from Kicking Ash did superb job of evaluation, diagnosing problem, explaining everything clearly and providing detailed information on solution. They were polite, friendly, professional and competent. They replaced the chimney liner, fixed damper, insulated as needed and secured new liner and completed repairs on chimney on roof. Very complete and each step explained. While I really appreciated their competence and expertise, what was even more important to me was their honesty, commitment to quality work, high standards and comprehensiveness of services. This was the best service I have ever had through an Angie’s List service, I would strongly support their service and urge working with them."

"I called and the gentleman who answered the phone was quite responsive to my series of questions and quasi-requests given my total lack of knowledge and experience in this arena of chimneys and fireplaces. We were able to get serviced the following day due to cancellation and were able to take advantage of a $20 online discount. The technician arrived promptly (actually earlier than) than 12-4pm window for service. He took his time explaining how things worked to my husband and cleaned the chimneys. He did note some issues that might need repair down the road but did not try to push us into additional services."

"The estimate for the repairs went fine. The job needed to be completed on a different day due to the anticipated rain. Everything was professionally handled and the chimneys look great. Mike, who completed the work was very professional and punctual. I would look to hire them again in the future."

"Rescue Roofing came out asap to assess the job, they got roofers and masonry specialists out asap to fix our problem. Not only was an excellent job done (no leaks yet!) but communications were great and the bill was not as high as I thought it would be! Very Very pleased with Rescue Roofing and recommend them to anyone needing roof or chimney repair."

"Based on the other Angie's List reviews I'm surprised that I had a bad experience with B&T Roofing. They were way over-priced on the estimate compared to other well-rated Angie's List roofing companies (more than double). If that had been the only problem I would not be writing this because I think companies have a right to charge what they want. I'm giving the negative review because B&T, and one other roofing company, did not properly evaluate the problem and what they told me in the estimating process caused me a lot of difficulty with the mason company and could have cost me multiple thousands extra if I hadn't dug deeper for more information elsewhere. I had a leak in my living room that was the result of a flashing problem on my chimney. I hired a mason to repair the chimney and the mason company told me I would need a roofer to install the flashing and repair a rotten area on the roof next to the chimney. When Robert, the B&T Roofing estimate person came to look at the project, the mason had already removed my chimney and rebuilt it. My house was built in 1950 and has a structural stone chimney (weight bearing stone stacked upon each other). B&T Roofing estimator did not examine it closely and mistakenly assumed it was a cultured stone chimney (a concrete block chimney wall with thinner slices of stone glued on) and told me the mason had done the whole thing wrong and all the stone would need to be completely torn down again so that B&T could install the flashing. I'd just had the chimney re-built a couple days before so this was very upsetting. I was awake all night trying to figure out what to do and I then took the mason I'd hired to task and threatened not to pay the $3,000 invoice. As noted, another roofing company gave an estimate the same day and said the same thing so B&T is not the only company whose estimators don't have knowledge on an older chimney of this style. However, the other roofing company also gave me the name of a mason they use and sent that mason out to figure out what was needed. That second mason looked at my chimney and my two roofing estimates and explained to me that the B&T and other roofing estimator did not know what they were looking at and had made wrong assumptions that an interior chimney wall existed to which they could attach flashing under the stone. My first mason had properly set the stone at the bottom leaving a space for flashing for the type of chimney I have (obviously I had to apologize to the first mason for the prior conversation where I'd told them two roofers said they did the bottom of the chimney wrong). I sent B&T an email explaining their mistake. B&T emailed an estimate increasing the cost of the flashing installation from $1,235 to $1,585. No one from B&T called me to apologize or discuss the new estimate. This B&T estimate was for flashing only and stated that they could not determine the charge for the rotten roof deck repair until after they began work and they would add that charge later so the $1,585 quote represents only half my project. The company I hired charged $770 for both the flashing and the deck repair (the entire project)."

"My chimney was deteriorating and after struggling with it and a leaky roof for the past several years, I decided to make the plunge to have it fix once and for all. After receiving recommendations and reviewing Angie’s list, I asked 7 companies for bids and 4 responded. I had the first company take pictures so that I could see the problem(s) first hand, which proved to be invaluable for subsequent bids and discussions. One said for $500 he’d stucco the old chimney and “if” that didn’t stop the leaks, he’d recommend I get the chimney replaced. I sent pictures to Integrity Masonry and asked for a bid to either fix or replace it. Upon reviewing the photos, Arnold Pack, the owner, sent me a bid in April to replace the chimney. The third company offered to do water seal, crown coat, & flashing seal for $707 but could not guarantee the warranty on water seal treatment without my purchasing a flue liner for $879. REALLY?!?! In mid July, the last company interviewed recommended the chimney be torn down and rebuild for $5,475 & ‘recommended’ the flue be lined with an aluminum flex liner for $815, or a stainless steel liner for $1,375 – total cost $6290 or $6850. Of course, I did my due diligence regarding the “liner” and found it wasn’t necessary for my situation. After 4 months of bids, discussions & more aggravation, I contacted Integrity Masonry, accepted their bid and they began the first week of August. In a word, this is a GREAT small business! The Integrity Masonry crew pictured below (Jeremiah [Arnold’s son], Billy, Tim and Arnold ) are amazingly hard workers, and really good guys. They dismantled the old chimney on the first day, carrying all the old bricks off the roof in buckets, removed 2 clay flues that were broken, then cleaned off the roof and other debris before they left. Arnold bought me three different sets of bricks and I selected the color that I wanted. As the guys began dismantling the chimney, I showed Arnold the ceiling leak inside the house as well as the chimney clean out cavity in the basement, which he emptied. He didn’t think the chimney caused the leak, then sent in one of his crew, a former roofer, who was also skeptical that the chimney was the case of the leak. During the course of dismantling the chimney and examining the roof, they found that water was getting in behind a downspout, seeping in and around some loose roof tiles and oddly angled areas that were hard to get at and hadn’t been properly sealed. The next day with bricks and clay flue liners in tow (having scoffed at the notion that I needed either an aluminum or stainless steel liner), the crew built the new chimney in one long and hot summer day. Since the black chimney cap screen which I already had was in good shape with a little rust, I got some Krylon metal spray paint and Arnold gave it a few coats which prevented me from having to purchase a new one. Finally, since the leaky roof still needed to be addressed, on a subsequent day, Arnold returned with the roofer, and having figured out what the problem was, spent the good part of a third day doing this repair which was above and beyond the chimney work, for which I paid an additional $125. And thus far, no more leaks! Whoopee! THIS OUTFIT IS ONE OF THE BEST-KEPT SECRETS IN COLUMBUS. Integrity Masonry is ABsolutely FABulous! The guys worked hard and the price was more than fair! Salt-of-the-earth guys with an honest day’s work ethic. You can’t get any better than that. I will definitely hire Integrity Masonry again. Kudos to them!"
