"I highly recommend Rolling Hills. From start to finish they were a pleasure to work with. We had a new paver patio and French drains installed. We’ve gotten so many compliments on the patio. It came out beautiful. We are really pleased with the final results. Amanda was very patient with me and all my questions. It’s obvious that she is customer service oriented. Which nowadays goes a long way. The actual work is done by two guys,John and Angelo who work hard and really well together. Thanks to Amanda, John and Angelo for an overall job well done."

"Tremendously. I've had this gravel driveway done several times over the years and DC did the best job by far. Perfect edges. Nice and thick with a very even spread of material. The wall was removed without any trampling of the ground cover in front of it. I'm a little shocked to be honest. Kind of like the wall just disappeared. Pretty funny actually. Lastly, it wasn't in the contract but Dave added some mulch to even out the soil where the wall stood. Just great work with detail I didn't expect. Would definitely hire again."

"Really pleased with Prestige. They returned my call timely and set up a day for a quote. Jeff came to our house and proceeded to do measurements and calculations. He was very informative and offer sound suggestions on what would be the best way to go forward with the project. The crew arrived on time and started the job of removing some old asphalt and dirt. They laid gravel down and compacted it. Then used Versa Loc stone to build the wall. More stone was added and leveled and compacted. They then laid a couple coats of asphalt and used a roller to compact and level it. I wanted the other half of the driveway sealed and they coated it twice. This is just a few paragraphs of the job. Much more was done. All the work was completed by hard working, courteous, and professional employees. The cost was very reasonable."

"Called Greg and he came out a couple of days later and gave me an estimate. I asked if he could finish the job by a certain date as I was going on vacation. Greg said that this would not be a problem. I called Greg and hired him to do the work a couple days later. About a week passed and Greg said he would be starting Friday morning. Friday morning at 8AM the crew was here working diligently. The crew removed an existing paver patio; prepped and formed the patio to my specification; installed the aggregate; then poured 5 yards of concrete in 1 day. My 80-foot driveway is newly paved. They used a bobcat to transfer the concrete from the street to the back of my house. They made 10-15 trips and not a single drop of concrete on my driveway! Greg stopped in Friday late afternoon to check in on the crew and my satisfaction. The crew returned Monday (they were going to work Saturday but we had storms all weekend). The crew fixed the yard where the bobcat tore up the sod. They used a great grade of top soil, seeded and covered with mushroom mulch. What a fantastic job. The crew was friendly, attentive, detail oriented and focused on getting the job done. If you need work done, do not bother calling anybody else."

"I am writing to express satisfaction for the company’s willingness to fix a significant problem. Last year they put down sod. It flourished for a short time and then went brown (yes, I watered). Sure there was some back and forth discussions but Local Roots stepped up, showed up early this season, pulled up the sod and put down seed. Gratis. That rates a high recommendation."

"About three months ago, we hired CRS Contracting to do foundation repairs and install new French drains in our home. My wife and I were concerned about costs and running into additional problems, but the crew was able to calm our fears and kept the whole project on track, even finishing earlier than expected! They were able to dig up our foundation, install new piping, fix the foundation, and waterproof the foundation UNDER our original budget, which was truly a blessing for our family. We enjoyed the experience we had with the crew and they showed up on time, worked efficiently and professionally, and were kind to myself, my wife, and our children. Great experience all around and we would highly recommend CRS Contracting!"

"We were very happy with the service and work done. The workers were very professional and Jeff was very prompt in coming out to provide an estimate. We added the rock at the last minute and he was very accomodating and it did not delay the project. Most of the work was done in one day and given the time of year we've been pleasantly surprised at how much grass has grown."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Monroeville, PA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
