"The job was exceptional, and I am very pleased with the results!! I would certainly recommend this company to anyone who needs their carpet cleaned, or repaired in ANY way.
Here's my story from start to finish:
I went online (using random searches and Angie's List) and didn't find many reviews for carpet stretching companies. I moved into my house about two years ago, the seller had close to bottom of the line, brand new carpet installed, and there were carpet ripples all over the place, which were initially minimal, but got much worse as the two years passed. I started putting carpet remnants over the lumps so people wouldn't trip over them and they would not be as noticeable! I needed to either repair or replace the carpet, which covered the living room, dining room, two bedrooms, and a hallway (approx. 800 sq. ft.). I navigated online to yellowpages.com and typed in "carpet stretching" in Clearwater, FL, and called about 10 companies, three of which were actually qualified, answered or called me back, and had the availability to do the job within the next two months. Two of the three could come out that week, and one couldn't come out for several weeks. The first person that came out to do an estimate was Scott Weidner from RugRats. He seemed very knowledgeable and confident that he could fix the issue in short order. He also explained exactly what he could do, how to care for the carpet after he stretched it, and he guaranteed his work for 5 years. I was certainly impressed, but in order to save money I decided to go with one of the other companies I called, Marathon Carpet Restoration. Let me just say, it was a bad decision. I should have gone with RugRats from the start, but I didn't. As the owner/operator for Marathon, Paul Mintal, came to the door, I realized it was a bad decision. I should have told him I was not interested at that moment, but he seemed very old and fragile, and I genuinely felt sorry for him. Thinking he might not get much work, I allowed him to start the job, which he originally estimated over the phone at 3-5 hours worth of work and quoted me $70/hour. Scott from RugRats also estimated about 5 hours, both used a power stretcher and had roughly the same amount of experience (20 years in the business). So I was thinking $210-$350 for the job, and that sounded better to me than the $475 that RugRats had quoted. I was hoping it would be closer to $210. I verified the original quote with Paul before he got started and again he estimated that it would take less than 5 hours and would be $70/hr. Five hours into the job I stopped Paul and let him know that I had just not budgeted more than 5 hours worth of work for this project. He kindly agreed that we would stop the clock at 5 hours and he would finish the job no matter how long it took. After TEN HOURS of work he finally finished up and came back with a written receipt. The receipt showed $76/hour and included fees for the service call and supplies. I told him I had already written the check for $350 and so he scratched out the information on the receipt, wrote $350, and signed the name "Paul Wayne". I signed my real name and walked him out. As I looked back at the job he had done I felt absolutely deflated. What was I going to do now with these results, $350 dollars out the window, and why didn't I just pick RugRats!? Yes, he had removed some of the wrinkles, but the carpet was far from being tight or "stretched" and all he had really done was remove some of the excess carpet that was bubbled up near the baseboards. Scott's warning came back to haunt me, "Make sure they are insured and that they guarantee their work! If they are not insured and they destroy your carpet you'll have more work on your hands than you do now." After looking at the carpet for a few days I decided to call RugRats again and see what they could do to help me fix the problems that Marathon had left. Scott Weidner from RugRats came back over to my house within hours of my phone call to look at the job and assess what it would take to fix it. Unfortunately, because of the terrible reseaming work that Paul had done, Scott had to plug (patch) a portion of the hallway. The patch is invisible.
I could not be happier with the work from RugRats. The carpet is tight, and I feel really good about the fact that they guarantee their work for 5 years. Even though it hurt to have to pay for this service twice, I am glad I ultimately decided to go with RugRats because I can now expect this carpet to last much longer (Scott estimates 10 years if I maintain it with a once a year cleaning) and continue to look great for much longer than if I had just settled with my initial results.
All in all, the end result is 100% exactly like how I expected it would be the first time around. Truly, it looks brand new like it was just installed and apparently (Scott says) that's how all of his jobs go! Seeing his work, I would not be surprised if that is exactly the case. Sometimes it's better to go with your gut feeling and not the cheapest bidder. As for price, RugRats was right in the middle. I saw reviews from people who had paid around $600, and Marathon who had quoted 3 times less than that, but RugRats was right in the middle, promised and guaranteed my satisfaction of their work, were insured, used a power stretcher, and guaranteed that it would not ripple for 3-5 years depending on how I cared for it. I could have kicked myself for not choosing them first and paid two times more than I needed to by not choosing them first, but my carpet looks great now and I know who to call if it gets damaged in any way. My new go-to company for all my carpet cleaning and repair needs is RugRats, hands down. Of course, now it only needs cleaning as it has been fully repaired and restored. RugRats does not disappoint! That's not to say that there aren't other great companies out there, but I know I would be hard pressed to to find any better results than the work Scott did on my carpet. Like I said, it looks newly installed, and it's two years old. Great job RugRats! Fast service, perfect work, wish I would have gone with them first, and glad I decided to call them after my initial bad experience.
It can be difficult to decide on a company when you don't know all the facts and you can sometimes feel like you never know everything you need to know before hiring someone... maybe they are all good in their own way. Let me be clear in saying that the quality of each contractor's work is not all the same. RugRats is a company you can trust to get the job done well and with efficiency. Some companies will just get the job done (and their version of "done" could be debatable).
I hope this review helps people in their search for a good carpet cleaning and repair company. I am very happy to have gone through this experience so that everyone else knows that RugRats is the best! If my story helps others in some way, then it's a worthwhile lesson to have learned. Too bad I couldn't have read it on Angie's List first!"

"My carpet was heavily soiled from two elderly cats with gastric issues. In no way did I expect them to be able to clean this carpet and was already planning out, in my head, how to deal with replacing the carpet. To my amazement, with the exception of two small areas, the carpet looks better than new. I couldn't be happier with the results and I would whole-heartedly recommend this company for your carpet cleaning needs."

"Exceptional! Tile had not looked that good in years. The Grout Doctor charged us a lot of money to paint grout. Billy, of Highlander, actually CLEANED the grout to look like new. He was careful, thorough, and professional. If you want your grout cleaned to like new, he is your guy!"
