Turned out to me much less serious (existing line could be repaired). He wasn't pushy about add-ons and didn't try to scare me into doing more than was necessary, which is rare for service techs nowadays. The repair was still very expensive, but I didn't have time to shop around for low-ball bids, I was without service. I'd still recommend Benjamin Franklin Plumbing and even more strongly recommend requesting Gary, he was awesome."
