"Because I had purchased a furnace from Plumbing and Heating Paramedics and received excellent service and a fair price, they were first on my list when I found an outdoor water faucet frozen after the winter's cold weather. A technician came out and inspected it. He said he needed to turn water off to the whole house but probably would run into a problem with the shut off valve, and recommended that be replaced also. The total bill was going to be almost $1000. I wanted to think about it so paid him $85 for a service call and told him I would get back to him in a few days. In the meantime I spoke with a friend who has some plumbing knowledge and he told me how to make the repair. I didn?t need to shut off the water at all. It cost me less than $6 and took about 5 minutes. Indefinitely feel I this technician was trying to swindle me. "

"I had a very negative experience with Hope. They misdiagnosed the problem, did shoddy work on the installation they said would fix my problem, which resulted in my spending over $3,000 unnecessarily. Then, only after I had another one of their plumbers come to the house and diagnose the problem that I had originally suggested, and I wrote a negative review (after waiting over a week to hear back from them) did they refund the money at the same time as asking me to delete the review. The actual problem was one I had suggested to them and that I've now been told was extremely obvious and couldn't have been missed by a competent plumber but could have been missed by someone wanting to make more money. I've since had the problem resolved for less than $300. "

"They got the old sump pump removed and installed the new one. They even disposed of the old stuff which I greatly appreciated. They were wonderful and would call on Greenwell Plumbing again."

"They wanted $420 for a one-hour drain clean out. And that was with a $75 "coupon". Ha! I told them to get lost. With one phone call to another plumber and I found same thing for $150. Roto-Rooter must be a group of lawyers who do plumbing in their free time."

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Needham, IN

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
