"Russ returned my call on the same day I contacted him. He came out and evaluated the deck screens and presented various options for repairing or replacing the ill-fitting screens. His recommendation was actually for the least expensive method of repair (reinstall the existing screen panels but in a more efficient manner). He also provided quotes for the three window screens that were needed upstairs. Russ arrived promptly on the date scheduled. He reinstalled the existing screen panels on the porch in the manner he had recommended. The finished product looked better than the original installation. He also quickly and efficiently installed the screens on the upstairs insulated windows. We were extremely pleased with his work and would gladly recommend him to friends and family."

"We thought we made an appointment with happy handy man to come out and fix our sliding glass doors. There was a discrepancy with the date and they never sent any kind of reminderÂ…..text , call or email and then the next thing I know is there is a message on my phone one day that they were going to come out but because they could not reach us the appointment was cancelled and since I did not cancel the appointment myself I would have to pay a $75.00 service fee! The problem is how do you cancel an appointment from two years in the past ? I will send you the confirmation email they sent for the appointment! Problem is the appointment email confirmation is from 2 years ago and I did not use them then either because the handyman they sent could not do the job and he said exactly that so we did not hire him/them two years ago either!"

"When I requested this service on Home Advisor I asked for installing a pet door inside my house. Home Advisor listed the service as installing an exterior door. Dad's construction still did the job for me even though Home Advisor listed it incorrectly."

"Carl found and repaired the leaks which were staining the downstairs ceiling. On our second call was for the outside faucet, he had to fabricate the part since it was no longer available for sale anywhere. We are grateful for his ingenuity, skill and care. Thanks to both Carl and Todd."

FAQs for door or window screens install or repair projects in Nelson, GA

Most off-the-shelf screens come in fixed sizes, ranging from 18 inches by 20 inches to 36 inches by 74 inches, which fit the vast majority of residential windows. If your opening falls outside that range or has a unique shape, you’ll need a custom screen built to the exact measurements. Going custom ensures a secure fit, a solid barrier against bugs, and a clean, finished look.

The decision to repair or replace your screen depends on the extent of the damage. Small holes or tears in otherwise solid mesh can be patched, and a sturdy frame usually doesn’t need to go anywhere. However, once the frame is bent or the mesh is brittle and fraying in several spots, replacement becomes a more sensible option—and often proves to be less costly in the long run. Take a close look at both parts before making a decision.

To rescreen a window, start by prying out the old spline, then lift the torn mesh from the frame. Lay the new screen over the frame, allowing about an inch of excess on all sides, and hold it in place while pressing fresh spline into the groove with a roller. Check that the mesh is taut—many pros rest a small brick on it while they work—then trim the overhang with a utility knife.

Most window screens last for 10 to 12 years. Time, sun, and weather gradually make the mesh brittle, so you’ll start to see sagging, rips, or thinning spots that let bugs get through. Check the screens each season; if the mesh crumbles or the frame warps, it’s time to replace them to keep air flowing and pests outside.

Most pros can swap out a screen in 10 minutes to an hour. A quick pop‑in replacement goes fastest, while fitting new mesh into an existing frame or working on a hard‑to‑reach upper window adds time. Either way, plan for at least a few extra minutes per screen so the installer can verify the fit and ensure the spline is seated correctly.
