"A few nights before Thanksgiving, we noticed water leaking through a crack in the basement foundation. We quickly realized (because of the smell) that this was not rain run off but some kind of trouble with our sewer line. We managed to cope till Thanksgiving Dinner was over, then we looked on Angie's List for a plumber. I called Topnotch on Thanksgiving evening - I wasn't expecting someone to come right out, but hoped to make an appointment for the next day. Sam answered the phone and apologized that he was not available till Monday, but offered to recommend someone else. We decided to wait and he came out Monday, discovered a clog in the drain, cleared it and then put a camera in the drain and discovered a crack in the sewer line about 6 feet from the house. That was the source of the leakage through the foundation. He recommended inserting a liner which would have been about $2000 cheaper than digging up the pipe section. We scheduled the work, he arrived with his team and as they were inserting the liner, it became obvious that not only was the pipe cracked, but also separated and the offset of the separation prevented the liner from going in. He offered an alternative liner that might have reduced the pipe width and risked future clogs or the option of digging it up. We decided to dig it up. The work was completed a few weeks later. Sam kept us well informed throughout and the work was performed relatively neatly (its kind of tough to do this kind of work pristinely). After filling in the drain access ditch and patching the concrete covering it, he had some cement left over and volunteered to patch with it an unrelated part of our driveway. Nice touch. We didn't get alternate estimates, so I can't opine on the cost, but based on web browsing, the pricing was competitive. We are satisfied and would recommend Topnotch to others."

FAQs for drain line breakage camera locate projects in New City, NY

During the inspection, you’ll watch a high-definition video feed that shows exactly what’s going on inside the pipe—everything from minor buildup to major cracks. Your plumber pauses the footage to explain what you’re seeing and why it matters. Bright lights and self-leveling cameras make sure each section is captured clearly, so you leave with a complete picture of your sewer’s health.

Most professionals complete a standard sewer camera inspection in an hour. That window covers setting up the gear, guiding the camera through the line, and reviewing the footage with you. If your house lacks a cleanout and the technician needs to pull a toilet or access a vent stack, tack on a little extra time—and cost—for that added work.

Yes, a sewer camera inspection can help you identify septic system problems. A sewer camera gives your pro a live view of the pipes leading to the septic tank, so they can spot blockages, corrosion, leaks, or other red flags without guesswork. Pinpointing the problem quickly means you can plan the right repair and keep the entire septic system running smoothly.
