"Water Heater Masters were top-notch! I called on a Saturday afternoon - they were available 9am Sunday morning to come and inspect and quote. They only had one guy working that day, but scheduled me for Monday morning between 8 and 9. At 8:15am I got a call with an ETA of 8:45, which was a really nice touch! Despite telling me it would take an entire day to install, they were done by 1pm. They also found some creative ways to do the install to avoid drilling through my stucco (for the exhaust vent and for the condensate run-off). Very professional and clean-looking install. These guys may not always be the cheapest around, and they recommended a top-of-the-line heater (which is what I really wanted anyway), but I'd much rather pay a little extra for that level of service and support. Our thinking was that the particles were coming out of the top of the water heater, where there is an opening that was just below the venting pipe that leads to the roof. I called Better Water Heaters and Frans (owner?) answered. I did not realize that he was in his truck on the way to another job. I described what we saw and did not think it was coming from the water heater. He suggested that I sent him the pictures that we taken and forwarded to him. Shortly thereafter, he called back and reconfirmed to me that he did not think the particles/black materials were coming from the water heater and that it is more likely, coming from the roof by way of the vent pipe. Frans responded fairly quickly and did not charge me for his professional assessment of the problem. As a result, I will call Better Heater Services in the future whenever servicing is required."

Less than a week later No hot water for over 30 hours till the second technician replaced the thermocouple. All is perfect now. No charge for the second visit.
