"Customer Service was good. However pump was installed in a different spot then was discussed with out proper consultation. Despite prior assurances, the basement was not closed off during jack hammering, thus creating a thick layer of dust over the entire basement."

"Connecticut Basement Systems prides themselves on their superior customer service, and they really live up to that. Their communication, quality of products and service, and attentiveness to customer needs is unsurpassed. Here are a couple of examples of how they go the extra mile for a satisfied customer: They installed their basement drainage system around my existing heating oil tank, but as I'm planning to convert away from oil this summer, they offered to come back AT NO EXTRA CHARGE once the tank is removed, to reroute the drainage system. Also, I was scheduled for a 3-day project, which included the replacement of some flooring in my basement. On the day the project began, we reconsidered the need for the flooring, and asked if we could cancel that portion of the job. They could not have been more accommodating to that adjustment, and made the change with no questions asked or negative attitude, even though it significantly lowered the price of the project and eliminated a whole day of scheduled work on 2-days' notice. That sort of total customer dedication is rare. I recommend them highly."

"Better Built Basements LLC renovated my basement this past summer, installing a full bathroom, bedroom (with egress window), office and finished common area. The project went very smoothly, with great communication and follow-up. Just about everything was done to spec and on the correct timeline. At the beginning of the project we were provided a schedule, and they met almost every milestone; the entire project was completed on time, including pulling the necessary permits and passing all town inspections. We had a few change orders during the project, and they were able to work them in and still complete the project within the original time frame. The communication was phenomenal. For each phase of the project we knew who was coming to the house when, who would be in charge if there was any issue, and who we could escalate to if there were concerns. I would highly recommend them for any project. Months later we are as thrilled with the basement as we were the day it was completed. Thanks so much to the team for our wonderful finished basement."

"Eric replaced my old leaking oil furnace (for hot water and heating) with a electric hybird water heater (hot water) + high efficiency oil furnace (for home heating). Eric and his company did a great job on installing the two system in my house. Very professional and fair price for the work they did. I'm very pleased and will be looking to get them to install a ductless hvac system in the near future."

"It went great. I didn't really know what needed to be done, and thought it might require replacing 20 feet of drainage pipe. Bill & his team figured out what and where the problem was, and fixed it for less than his estimate, since it only required about 7 feet of new piping. He also gave me some helpful advice on another issue, not related to gutters."

"It is very convenient, and reasonably priced. The only thing that they could work on is the punctuality of the pick up times. The rest of the experience was satisfactory. My daughter has also used them. I would highly recommend this service."

"aThe job went very well. The team completed the job in about 5 days, which required jackhammering about 1' x 125' foot of material, disposing of the material via wheelbarrow to their truck, installing perforated pipe and crushed stone and then covering it all with concrete.
Since then I haven't had any water in the basement. As a bonus they tied in my one of my gutter downspouts to the drain line that ran to the back of the property.
I just recently joined Angie's List and had to make sure these guys commended for the great job they did."

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in North Grosvenordale, CT

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
