"The technician arrived at the start of the 2 hour window. On time! Very professional. Explained options for dealing with my toilet leak. I chose to replace the toilet and gave him guidlines for the new toilet. He went to Home Depot, acquired the toilet returned promptly and installed it in a timely manner. After which he broke down and explained the itemized charges. After paying for the work thru my credit card, I received an e-mail summary right away...One major concern that I had in hiring Western Rooter & Plumbing was that their technicians had been vaccinated for Covid 19. I had been referred to Western earlier this year by my condo HOA for a common area leak repair in my unit. I was assured by the dispatcher that the technician coming to my condo was vaccinated against Covid. So when I had this toilet leak problem 6 months later that I had to pay for, out of a multitude of plumbing companies, I went back to Western Rooter & Plumbing after receiving the same assurance."

He worked within our budget, did top notch service, and even offered free advice for our other bathroom. "First an engineer came out from Alpha Structural to examine the job and see if it is a project that their company is appropriate for taking on.  We were concerned about the stability of our garage since we have installed solar panels on it which makes it rather top heavy and we wanted to hire an engineering firm who knows something about structures, rather than a general contractor.  The initial engineer said that the fix would be rather straightforward.  Since plywood provides a lot of shear strength, he proposed taking off the old board and batten walls (which were rotting anyway) and replacing them with plywood walls.  This adds enormously to the shear strength of the structure.  Also, he proposed strengthening a post in the center of the garage and giving it structural hardware that would also add to the rigidity of the structure.  Two weeks after the initial meeting, a crew came to start the work.  There was usually an engineer overseeing the work of the crew.  There was a lot of demolition involved because as well as taking off most of two walls of the garage, they also demolished some old nasty shelving that I asked them to remove.  In fact, that wasn't in the initial scope of the work but they did it with no extra charge.  Perhaps it made the job a bit easier for them because it would have got it their way if it were left where it was.  At the same time they had a crew cutting the old concrete and removing it in one half of the garage where it had large cracks. They brought in a large truck to remove all the debris, including all the junk that I had cleaned out of the garage in preparation for the project.  Then they brought in their framing and their concrete crews.  They put in a lot of new framing to replace the rotten framing that they had torn out. And they put black tar paper and plywood on the walls.  The concrete crew cut dug out the side of the garage that was getting the new concrete, put in rebar and poured the new concrete.  They did a great job of matching the new concrete to the old concrete.  Our old concrete, it turns out, was very thin so the new side is now much better quality than the old was.  I think the job took 7 working days in total.   <br /> A week after the job was finished and paid for, the owner of the company came out just to make sure he approved everything.  In fact, I had just had new garage doors installed and the installers pointed out another rotten framing 2x4 on a different wall.  So I pointed that out to the company owner and he sent someone out to replace that.  He also complained that the drainage wasn't proper so the following week another couple of guys came out to dig a better drainage ditch behind the garage.  Then they sent out yet another inspector.  I was totally impressed.  They are really conscientious and want to be sure everything is done properly.  I would certainly recommend them to anyone who wants or needs a structural engineering & construction company. <br /> I am completely pleased with our much improved garage. <br />"

"My experience with Marc at Make it Drain was fantastic. We had a problem with leakage under the house that we thought was fixed when we bought the place. Turns out two years later that something wasn't done right and we had wastewater accumulating from the kitchen. Marc from Make it Drain came out on short notice on the weekend to look at the job, and he gave me a great estimate, educated me about the issues, talked me through the process, and had a friendly but no-pressure approach. I had several other companies out to make estimates, and one of the estimates was three times what Marc quoted me!! When we arranged the job it was easy, and Marc and his guys showed up on time, did exactly what he said he'd do, kept everything super clean, took pictures to show me what was going on, and continued to keep me looped in so I understood everything. It was a painless process, done quickly and professionally. I will call them anytime I have plumbing needs!"

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in North Hollywood, CA

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
