"I had 2 other bids prior to selecting A Better Chimney to tuck point the chimney on our 80 year old house.  I chose A Better Chimney because of the reviews on Angie's list, the proposed plan made sense to me,  the bid was reasonable, and my positive impression of Brandon.  I was kept informed of the plan each day.  Changes to the schedule (due to the weather) were always communicated, along with the revised plan.  Devin worked hard each day and made sure that I was aware of what he was doing and, most importantly, he ensured that the area was secured for my dogs.  Devin and Brandon were considerate of, and communicated well with my neighbors, so much so that my neighbors hired them at the completion of the work at my house.   This was a very positive experience.  The work looks great and the clean up was very thorough.  I would not hesitate to refer A Better Chimney to friends and neighbors or to hire them again should the need arise."

"I had American Chimney & Masonry out on November 1, 2017 to look over my chimney and fireplace. First of all, they charged me $142.45 for an inspection. I've had two other companies do the same inspection for free. The representative from American Chimney took a lot more time and a lot more pictures to give me the same information the other companies did. Secondly, American Chimney submitted a bid of over $4,300 to replace and rebuild the top 12 rows of bricks from the chimney, tuck point the rest of the chimney, do additional masonry work (crown wash and flue tile), replace the counter flashing, apply water repellent, put up scaffolding (to do the upper chimney work), and repair a couple of cracks in the back of the fireplace. Their bid did not include sweeping the chimney. I had two other highly rated companies come out to look at the same chimney. They both said there was no need to rebuild the chimney and that what I needed, for maintenance and safety reasons, was to tuck point the entire chimney, power wash and apply water repellent, and sweep the chimney. That's it. No rebuilding, no additional masonry work, no work on the counter flashing, no need for scaffolding, and the cracks in the back of the fireplace were not significant and represented no hazard. To get my chimney to a safe place, with a ten-year warranty on the work, I'm going to spend less than $900, a far cry from American Chimney & Maintenance's $4,300. As earnest as the representative from American Chimney was, I have to admit I'm concerned that they were trying to oversell me. Needless to say, I did not accept the proposal from American Chimney. I have used this company in the past, for sweeping and to put a cap on the chimney, and their work has been quite good. But their prices are also quite high. It's a large company that carries a lot of overhead. Price-wise, it's not going to be able to compete with a smaller, local company. Their work can be fine (one of the other bidders confirmed that they do good work), but their price will be high. I will use other companies in the future."

"Arrived promptly. Cleaned from outside trap, so no mess! Requested that they clean the soot off the top of the chimney, which they most willingly did, though the use of something other than just a dry rag would probably have had more pleasing results. Loved their promptness and friendliness!"

"Got three bids. One was from a large Portland company that charged me $142 for the inspection of the chimney, where the guy took pictures, spent a lot of time (an hour) with me to explain all it needed, and then gave me a bid of something around $4,000. He explained that I had many loose bricks and they needed replacing besides some tuckpointing, sweeping, and waterproofing. Bid two was from a smaller company. Said I didn't need to replace bricks, just tuckpoint. With cleaning, tuckpointing, sealing of the flashing and waterproofing, the bid was $1875. Tobias Watts, owner of Tip Top Chimney Sweep, came out and agreed that I did not need to replace any bricks, just tuckpoint. He came out when the weather was decent, did the tuckpointing, waterproofed and swept the chimney, and even painted and sealed the flashing. All for $850. It looks great, and what makes this a rave review is that Tobias is not only an experienced, competent chimney servicer, but he's also a rare contractor - someone who's word is gold and who takes pride in his work and in providing the best service for his customers. Couldn't be better."

"Jozo and Kiana Karlovic of Euro Masonry LLC were wonderful to work with in scheduling the rebuild of my chimney. They were friendly and knowledgeable and never kept me waiting. Jozo came to my home when he said he would to look at the chimney and then he provided an assessment of what needed to be done and gave me an estimate. Kiana was prompt and detailed when she emailed the estimate, the agreement and other correspondence. I was unsure of what needed to be done and definitely unwilling to climb on the roof to look. The fellow who cleans my gutters had told me that mortar was breaking away from the chimney bricks. Since the mortar had been tuckpointed more than 35 years ago, a complete rebuild seemed reasonable. Other friends suggested that I might want to consider adding a chimney cap. I asked Jozo and he explained that I didn’t really need one and it would look a bit unusual in this neighborhood, but he would have one fabricated for an additional price if that was what I wanted. That was the kind of honesty I look for in a contractor. Jozo fit me into his schedule and was meticulous in his work and cleanup. The chimney looks perfect and he provided me with before and after photos. He blew away all the fir needles and tree debris from the roof afterward because he’s that thorough. I was extremely pleased with his work and plan to pass his company information along to friends. Euro Masonry is an excellent firm and it was wonderful to work with Kiana and Jozo."
