Small jobs welcome

"Jose and his crew replaced old wood retaining walls. They installed the posts at a deeper depth and also cemented them at the base. 2x6's were used for the walls and secured to the posts with 3/8 x 3" galvanized lag bolts. will hire them for other projects. Work was done in a very short time. All debris was cleaned up after. extremely pleased with the quality and aesthetics of the work done."

"They dug and installed a PEX water line almost 1000ft through dense forest and steep terrain, including two hydrants along the way. Somehow still have great water pressure at the end. GREAT work at a great price!"

"The whole process went quite well.  We met with Jake in June where he fully described his services and what he envisioned for our area.  Having received several glowing recommendations from others that had used him (for example, he installed the water feature in the butterfly house of our local botanical gardens), we asked him to submit a design.  He provided an overall design about a week later that we liked and we gave him the approval to put us on his calendar.  One thing we liked about Jake was he was upfront and honest, letting us know the design might change once he started working the area; he likes to let the area dictate the design, not the other way around.  If it was going to be a significant change, he would stop work and discuss the changes with us.  Luckily he "read" the area correctly the first time and there were no significant changes. Jake's calendar is very full so the first time he could fit us in was mid to late September. Due to delays on other projects that was pushed to mid October, which we don't consider unusual for this type of project.  He estimated it would take 10 days to install; it took 13 mainly due to having to order and wait for a larger pond liner than expected.  Jake's crew was professional, polite, and worked very hard.  They arrived on time and worked the entire time.  He also installed landscaping around water feature and he used quality, sizable plants and didn't skimp on the cost (camellias, gardenias, encore azaleas, hawthorns, etc).  When we asked him to make one change (cement the rock retaining wall so the dog wouldn't knock it down), he agreed with no increase in cost.  And finally, he returned after the install to go over maintenance of the pond equipment and water plants.

In short, we are exceedingly pleased with this company, would use them again, and definitely recommend them to anyone considering a water feature."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Owens Cross Roads, AL

Most shed foundations benefit from a gravel layer four to six inches deep after proper compaction. The exact depth may vary depending on your specific soil conditions, climate, and shed weight. In areas with poor drainage or for heavier structures, contractors might recommend slightly deeper installations. Building the pad in multiple compacted layers rather than a single thick pour helps achieve optimal stability and load distribution.

Gravel pads cost significantly less than concrete foundations. While gravel materials run about $1.25 to $1.80 per square foot, concrete slabs average $6 per square foot. For a standard shed base, this price difference translates to substantial savings. Beyond the initial cost advantage, gravel pads also offer easier installation, simpler modifications if needed, and don't require specialized concrete finishing skills.

For a standard 10-by-12 shed pad, you'll need enough gravel to cover 120 square feet at the recommended depth. At rates of $1.25 to $1.80 per square foot, expect to spend $150 to $216 on gravel materials alone. Remember to factor in extending the pad beyond the shed's dimensions by one to two feet on each side for better drainage and stability, which increases the actual area needed.

The ideal gravel for shed foundations combines stability with proper drainage capabilities. Crusher run ($0.40 per square foot) makes an excellent base layer because it contains various particle sizes that lock together when compacted. For top layers, angular gravel provides better drainage while maintaining stability. Avoid perfectly round decorative stones as they don't compact effectively and may shift under weight, compromising your shed's stability over time.
