"Our home is now like a resort thanks to Bill and his crew. They installed the pool in the spring of 2018. We loved the company so much we signed up for the yearly plant and turf maintenance plan. They pay attention to detail and the keep up with the latest technology. I highly recommend this company."

"Best landscapers/designers I've worked with. Yard clean up is one thing, but I gave them very little to work with when explaining the walkway I wanted and they somehow managed to do EXACTLY what I'd envisioned. Looking to do more with them in the future."

"We had a lot of emails and calls to determine the best tank replacement and the exact dimensions. The old tank was inside and there were several sets of narrow doors that had to be navigated to bring in the new tank. The crew finished in a half day and did a neat job transferring the oil in the old tank to the new, and in replacing pipes and fittings."

"We were very pleased with services provided by Rick Hunt/American Home Performance. The energy audit was interesting to watch. They set up a blower to pull outside air into the house and Rick showed us on an infrared measuring tool where we had greater air infiltration. He prepared a comprehensive report recommending changes to improve energy efficiency and decrease energy bills. His report laid out a menu of recommended improvements, why the change is recommended, how much it is expected to save in future energy costs if the improvement is made, and available rebates for each improvement (from SMECO utility company). Some of the changes required follow on work for additional cost (e.g., increasing attic insulation to R-49). However, some of the recommended changes were quick no-cost changes (e.g., re-laying insulation that had been displaced when we replaced light fixtures, and adding caulk to a seam in the basement where basement wall meets floor). We subsequently contracted with American Home Performance to add insulation to our attic, weatherstrip/seal around openings/penetrations between attic and living space; and correct the venting of two bathroom exhaust fans. The workers were prompt, quick, and neat."

"Martin Allen did a great job. He replaced about 25 cracked or broken bricks on our front stoop and our patio behind the house. The bricks he installed match the older bricks very well and his masonry work was quite professional."

"I hired Renaissance to re-tuckpoint my home in 2016. After only a few years, the mortar is failing miserably. in some places the mortar is 90% gone and the bricks are eroding. The work falls under a 10-yr warranty, but after I contacted them and David Hutton came to take a look, he has been very cagey with details and info on how the repair will proceed. He has ignored my repeated requests for details on how they will test the remaining mortar for compromise and when I requested a drawing showing the boundaries of the mortar that needs repair, he has only told me that they'll provide before and after pics. I have no faith whatsoever that this job will be properly repaired after all of this. Save yourself many headaches and lots of money and don't hire this company."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Owings, MD

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
