"Jose is a very personable and talented landscaper. He responded immediately to my request for a quote and provided it the same day. Our yard was a mess as expected after replacing a septic drain field, so it needed topsoil, grading to restore water flow in the proper direction, and a new lawn. Jose and his team have obviously done this before and expertly restored our yard to it's original condition in about a day and a half. The 5,000 sq ft of sod installed blends in perfectly with the rest of the lawn and the 5,000+ sq ft seeded area is filling in great. Jose loves his work, does it extremely well, and truly enjoys helping people. I would recommend him to anyone and only regret that I didn't find him sooner."

"I was very pleased with King Cut's responsiveness to my quote request, their follow-up to spec the job, and the execution of the task. I asked for two levels of quote: simple repair of existing flagstone and a more ambitious paying stone rebuild of front walk. Two detailed quotes were prepared and transmitted to me for evaluation; I was very impressed with the detail. For budget reasons, I opted for the less expensive flagstone repair. My front walkway's flagstone arrangement had degraded over years and the polymeric sand had essentially disappeared prompting weed growth in cracks and other unsightly developments. ,King Cut's staff arrived early on the day of the job and finished the job in one day as estimated (which included laying gravel rock down around portions of house for erosion control purposes). The job involved re-bed of the flagstone on gravel then application of polymeric sand in the joints, The overall cost was as quoted. The job was completed on time and within budget with utmost professionalism. Very pleasant experience!"

"It went really well. Mark came out and proposed a longer term solution than just the Angie's list deal we had purchased. We could see he really was correct and the lawn needed a long term solution. He priced several options for us considering multiple issues we had. We chose the best option we felt we needed and so far it has been going really well. We would highly recommend Mark and definitely plan to continue using him in the future."

"Let's start out with Bill is a very patient guy. Once we got our amazing design from them, I had a series of medical issues which delayed us getting started by years.  Once we were able to start, getting the HOA to approve the new arbor was a chore and a half. First we had to change the original design because the distance from the easement for it had changed. We had to redesign it to fit. Then it took forever for the building guy at the HOA to see the changes because he either lost the plans or was out of town/ country. This took months (about 5). Once we could get rolling Sharper Cut got the building permit and we were almost off. Right after miss utility came out to mark things, we got the snow storm. That added another 2 weeks. After that it went very smoothly. We were contacted by the foreman and verified everything. Sharper Cut took out the old arbor(which was about to fall down) and moved any of the bushes that needed to be moved because of the footers. At that point they moved the stones for the path to their new resting place. The actual builders of the arbor came out and installed the arbor. Sharper Cut did warn me that with the transplants, there was a good chance of those bushes dying but I wanted to move them anyway. The shrubs died, but at least they got a chance.  There was never any clean up on our part required. They were here for about a half day each time and the ones putting in the arbor were here for approximately 3 hours.  <br /> We still have the rest of the plan to do- like replacing the wood on the deck and and building the patio; not to mention all the plantings needed and the front yard redesign. We plan to use them for all of what we need to do. My husband and I were extremely happy with their work and recommend them to anyone. <br /> <br />"

"Experience was great. Tank was located in the garage and was easily accessible. Quote was done over the phone plus a price per gallon for fuel removed. Appointment was scheduled. A week prior to the appointment, Greentrax called an said they had an opening and would be willing to have the work done sooner. We agreed. They came in drained the oil (about 70 gallons), removed the tank, closed off the existing plumbing and cleaned up. Great experience"

"All my expectations were met and exceeded. Flavio and his sons and excellent crew worked as true artisans to construct an exceedingly beautiful flagstone walk and patio in the courtyard to my home in Leisure World. The work was performed at the highest level of professionalism with careful attention to detail during the sales and specifications stage of the project and through every aspect of the installation. I was greatly impressed by the way each man on the crew approached the work -- each was a shining example of great customer service -- and the artisan who placed the stones was amazing. The work was performed exactly according to specifications, plus the extras they provided such as adding a discrete drainage pipe to pull away the condensate from my air conditioning system, and everything was done exactly according to the schedule we discussed. This company is highly recommended."

"I use them all season on a weekly basis for lawn service. All in all a very good value and overall very happy with the work. I'd rather do it myself but my allergies make me miserable so the occasional "missed a spot" or "dug up a little grass" is worth any very minor aggravation."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Owings, MD

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
