OVER 100 YEARS COMBINED EXPERIENCE AS YOU PATIO AND HARDSCAPE EXPERTS! SBC Outdoor Services was founded in 2015 by Brad Crist. Brad had over 15 years of experience in the industry and wanted to create a landscaping company that could hold true to the concept of “quality landscaping.” Ever since then we've been constantly growing as a high-end hardscape, landscape design, and commercial maintenance business. Over the course of our existence, we've earned a great reputation for quality service and we aim to not just maintain our reputation for excellence but to constantly improve it. That's why we only hire the best of the best. Our management team alone has over 30 years of experience in the industry and members of management used to maintain the White House. The rest of our team is similarly qualified and has over 100 years of combined experience. At SBC Outdoor Services we believe that landscaping is an art, not just a skill. We not only teach our employees proper installation methods but also encourage them to take initiative and to completely pour their imagination and skill into their work. Our design and installation divisions make sure that the product will be very functional as well as attractive while our maintenance division employees take great pride in the ongoing beauty of your property.

"They quoted me $7300 for about 170 square feet of paving stones. I had received several offers for less than half that for the wood patio that I preferred, so I did not go with them."

"We had our master and hall baths completely gutted and rebuilt. We bid the project out to several companies, and DMV was immediately the most helpful. Pricing was very competitive. Luis and the team completed both bathrooms in about 6 weeks - and this was a full demo. The crew was extremely kind and courteous, and worked hard to minimize the mess and impact to our home. One weekend we had a party, and they helped make our home look like there wasn’t a major project in-progress! Craftsmanship was impeccable. The tile work in particular is beautiful - details I hadn’t even thought of were done for me. Like any job, we had some changes to scope (our choice), and some minor hiccups. They were extremely helpful navigating through scope changes, and more than fair on pricing. And on the minor hiccups, they made it extra clear that the job wouldn’t be wrapped until we were satisfied - and that’s what happened. Honestly this experience was a 10 out of 10, and I hope we can have them out for another project soon. Our bathrooms went from blight to bling in 6 weeks - I look forward to getting ready now!"

Company Motto: WHEN WE'RE DONE, YOU'LL BE HAPPY, IF YOU'RE NOT HAPPY, WE'RE NOT DONE. It's more than just a motto, it's our Company-Heartbeat. "I would like to start by saying I researched this company thoroughly on different websites and met with a member of the company and I thought they were really going to turn out to be a great choice for my project. It ended up not being the case for me. I feel like I was treated as if my business was not wanted or needed and I am disappointed. I am still just sitting here“shaking my head” at the whole interaction. I went to a home remodeling show at the Baltimore Convention Center on Friday, February 16, 2018. I met a representative for the company that was working the booth at the show and explained that I was looking to add a porch to the front of my house. We spoke at length with someone that ended up being a designer for the company and showed him some “inspiration photos” of ideas we had in mind for the project. We showed him two pictures on a phone with crude Photoshop renderings of our house with some images of different porches we admired added to the front of our house just for a reference point. The designer gave us his card and told us to call the company to set up an appointment for him to come out and measure and discuss the project further. On February 27th 2018 we contacted the AES Customer Care department and made an appointment for the designer to come out for measurements and other information needed for an estimate. When we mentioned the “inspiration pics” we had we were asked to email them to the company in care of the Customer Care person that set up the estimate appointment. At that time an appointment was made for March 14, 2018. On March 14, 2018 at 3pm the same designer we met at the remodeling show arrived and took measurements of the front of the house. He was just as nice as he had been when we first met him. He stated that he didn’t feel one of the ideas we showed him would work because the pitch of the existing roof was too low to add dormers. He stated the second “inspiration pic” idea would work he thought. He drew some quick sketches on his IPad to explain to us why he didn’t think the dormers would work and we agreed. He also showed us a picture he had on his IPad of a porch project he designed for another customer. It was similar to what we were looking for and the house in the picture was similar to ours in the style. We really liked it. He explained at length how he would build the foundation of the porch without having to pour a lot of concrete and the different finishes we could use. He was probably at the house for about 2 hours answering our questions and explaining things. He told us he could produce a computer image for us of roughly how the porch in his picture on the IPad would look on our house--He stated he would need to do a computer drawing anyway in order to generate the estimate and he would share the drawing with us so we could get a general idea of how it would look. He told us it would take “about two weeks” to get the drawing and the estimate to us. If and when we signed a contract, work would begin approximately 90 days later because they were so busy he said. He left stating he knew “exactly what we wanted” (his words). Two weeks came and went and we heard nothing. I emailed the Customer Care Department on Friday 4/20/18 @ 12:52pm to ask how the estimate was coming along since it had been a little over a month. The same Customer Care Dept. person we set the appointment up with initially responded @ 1:05pm to say they would ask the designer to contact us as to when we could expect the estimate. I emailed Customer Service again on Friday, 5/4/18 @ 11:50am to say we still hadn’t heard from the designer. The Customer Care Dept. (same person) responded @ 11:52am to say he will let the designer know we are expecting communication from him. (No apology for the delay or anything else, just that one sentence). On Thursday 5/31/18 @ 12:32 I again emailed the Customer Care Dept. to say “I am reaching out one last time in an attempt to get an estimate. I am hoping this bad initial experience is not reflective of the company as a whole. Is there someone that can email me an estimate? At 12:42 the Customer Care department (same person I’ve been communicating with) responded saying “I will contact the designer and request him to contact you to let you know when to expect those mock–ups” (again, no apology or anything other than that one sentence). FINALLY on 5/31/18 @ 4:52pm I received the email below from the designer. He cc’d the Customer Care Dept. person I had been communicating with as well as the owner of the company. “I apologize as to any confusion with emails as I had sent you a couple emails a few weeks ago and then before that as well so I am replying to this thread. We had sat down and looked at your existing roof line and determined that because the original pitch on your roof was to low to add any kind of meaningful dormers and to connect a front porch based on that look. We felt it better to have an engineer look at what you want to accomplish and then do some structural drawings to get a proper spread and from those drawings (if it were possible) we could do a build cost and take off. The existing roof line was to low to present any kind of structural and finished look for what you wanted. Let us know if you would like the name and number of an engineer” I responded to all on 5/31/18 @ 8:06 pm. In a nutshell I said I would be interested in seeing proof of those sent emails because I never received anything from him at all after he left my house on March 14th. I reiterated the things he had done and said when he came to the house that I talked about above and said there was never a discussion regarding an engineer or anything remotely similar. I also said how disappointed I was. I never received any further communication from the designer, Customer Service Dept. person I communicated with that was cc’d on the email, or the owner that was cc’d on the email which is what has prompted me to leave the bad review. I am assuming the Customer Service Dept staff member and owner were cc’d when the designer finally responded to me because he was told to so they would know he did finally respond so I would stop “bothering them”. I can’t put into words how disappointed I am in the way I was treated by AES. I truly don’t think this behavior is typical from them based on the glowing reviews the company gets. It also appears they do beautiful work which is another reason I am disappointed. I still have no idea what the issue was but I had a horrible experience with them for whatever reason."

FAQs for attic remodeling projects in Parkville, MD

A loft conversion turns your unused attic or loft into a functional living space, like a bedroom or home office. Adding walls, ceilings, lighting, and even plumbing seamlessly integrates the new room with the rest of your home. It's a practical way to expand your living area and boost your property's value.

A loft is a finished and integrated living space created by converting an attic, while an attic is an isolated, unfinished area under the roof. The loft conversion process installs proper walls, ceilings, and utilities, transforming the space into a usable room that adds value to the home. In contrast, an attic remains largely unmodified and is typically reserved for storage.

Planning permission is required for a loft conversion because the project alters the structure and must meet strict building codes. A building permit, costing between $500 and $3,000, and mechanical permits, costing between $10 and $500 each, are mandatory. This regulatory process ensures safety, adherence to design standards, and the home's overall integrity during conversion.

A loft conversion takes several weeks because the project involves multiple phases, from design to finishing. The process requires careful planning, obtaining permits, executing structural changes, installing utilities, and completing final decorative work to ensure the converted area meets building codes and the homeowner’s requirements.

Choosing an alternative project instead of a loft conversion can be advantageous when a less complex project's return on investment is higher. Homeowners may opt for improvements like upgrading doors, windows, or adding a deck because these projects demand lower overall costs and fewer structural changes. Such alternatives can enhance home value and functionality with a more streamlined process.
