"The Buyer's Inspector was extremely thorough. I have heard it said that he is the "pit bull" of home inspectors. He left radon detection equipment behind for over 50 hours. He offered additional water testing at my request. He has provided me with a itemization of all things good, marginal, bad, dangerous of every aspect of my house. He cross referenced these comments with pictures and suggestions. He seemed highly knowledgeable. It will be easy for electrician, plumbers, chimney sweeps, etc. to understand and locate the problem areas in the home. But beware when you schedule: My inspection lasted 6 hours!"

"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"I am very pleased with Protech's service, from the first call I made to their office to get information to the quality of service the technicians provided.  The person I talked to on the phone was professional, friendly, and did not pressure me to use their service.  He was informative, and quickly sent me a quote via email.  The job was scheduled within one week and two service people came out on time, and I could not believe how quickly they worked!  They said they do 3 jobs a day.  They did a neat, professional job and it's been installed for about 3 weeks and it works like it is supposed to.  Before the system was installed the radon level was between 4.1 and 5.6 and now it's less than 0.3 which I understand is less than a detectable amount.  I chose this company off of Angie's List because of the good reviews, so I thought I should let other people on Angie's List know that I also recommend them. <br />"

"Our house tested at 6.2. We have a finished basement and two kids so we were very concerned. My husband hates the look of regular radon systems so he was happy when Aaron at AMC said they could install a garage attic system so you see nothing from the outside. It looks great. AMC also gave us a free follow up test and our numbers are now 0.4. I'm happy with the service and that our numbers are so low now. <br />"

"Chris was very professional on the phone and while he has been on his own for the past 4 years you can certainly tell that he knows his stuff. Our Cottage was a small 900 Square foot property fronting to a lake. Chris Arrived on time and when I arrived he was already at his inspection. His style was thorough, in depth and detailed. it took about 3 hours which I expected. I have had other inspectors that inspect a property in 90 mins and call it good. This is not the case with Chris. He looked in every nook and cranny, testing for mold, water, unseen moisture, he tested all heating and electrical and gave me a great education on well heads, pumps and septic systems. The Attic access was block but chis didnt let this stop him, he gently nudged open the access panel and gave the attic and roof a bottom up and top inspection. And while there were no surprises I am now very confident in our purchase and have a punch list of items that I plan on improving over time. A lot of times a county may not require an inspection, but for peace of mind and to really understand what you are purchasing I can give a Great recommendation on Optimus Home Inspection. You will know what the property's true condition. <br />"

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Parma, MI

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
