They worked so quickly, efficiently, doing even more than was expected and you are also buying a families almost 100 years of tree/shrub experience as they have owned their nursery for generations in SE Wisconsin. They are amazing for any/all kinds of landscaping, tree/shrub install, placement etc. Can't wait to find more projects to partner on."

Tripp Landscaping has strived to provide top-notch landscaping service to the Springfield area. Its success is reflected in the many satisfied clients the business has seen over the years. \n\nLike most businesses, Tripp Landscaping had humble \nbeginnings. It started as a small operation owner/founder Mark Tripp began at his Springfield home in 1978. He had only a handfull of employees.\n\nIt wasn't long before the business grew too big for Mark's home, so he set up shop at his first retail location on 6th Street, Springfield. \n\nAs the company grew and evolved, Mark decided in 1992 to move the business to its current location on Woodside Rd., in Springfield. Tripp Landscaping currently includes a nursery stocked with high-quality trees, shrubs, and perennials, in addition to an office where design creation and presentation take place.

"Never again! We contracted Calhoun for stair and hallway carpet in February. We called 2 months later; "oh, yeah...I think it's back in the warehouse." Installers came and when they had finished 3/4 of it, they announced they were short of carpet. Carpet ordered...7 weeks later, we called...same thing. "It's here - in the warehouse." Scheduled installers...no show. Rescheduled..called to say they'd be late. 3 hours later, they called to say , "Sorry - wrong equipment on truck - reschedule." Finally showed up with mismeasured carpet AGAIN, and we waited another month before the carpet was finally finished. But guess what? They certainly didn't take any time to bill us. THINK CAREFULLY before you call these guys. The very slightly lower price was NOT worth this. Carpet finished end of JUNE."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Petersburg, IL

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
