"I initially contacted Dan because my lawn had become overgrown and I needed a fast turnaround on basic lawn service. Dan was very responsive, and within a day or two the lawn looked terrific. Since then, he has been taking care of my lawn every other week, skipping weeks when it hadn't grown enough to justify mowing. He has always been very responsive to emails, and his work has always been of terrific quality. $30 for my lawn seems a little high considering I could get a couple of college kids to do it for less, but I'm happy to stay with him since he does such a great job."

"Allied Outdoor Solutions installed a paver patio for us. It is awesome and they were awesome. I’m not sure if we got lucky or if all their crews are as good as ours was. Carlos, Jeremy and Javier nailed it. They worked very hard, paid attention to detail and were super nice and polite. Also, during the COVID-19 stay-at-home order, Carlos proactively communicated with us regarding delays and rescheduling, reassuring us that we would be a priority as soon as they were able to work on site again (and kept his word during a challenging time). We would definitely go with Allied Outdoor Solutions again! Lester & Merryl Carson Fort Worth, TX"

"My husband and I have been planning some landscaping work for over a month now. In the process we've looked at several stone and rock supply companies to get quotes and look at the selection. Our overall conclusion is that most supply places have the same basic rock, stone, gravel, and mulch, maybe slightly different, but they don't all treat you the same. Whittlesey made us feel comfortable and treated us like actual customers even if we weren't spending thousands of dollars. We really appreciated that. I am quite satisfied by the price that I paid for some granite gravel. We had the gravel delivered and they were at our home within 2 hours. We were able to get to work that day. <br /> I've already been back to buy some stone for stepping stones. Buying the stone was easy. You weigh your vehicle, pick out the stone you want, weigh your vehicle again, and go pay. I was very satisfied and will continue to return as I have a lot more work to do outside within the next few months."

"It went very well. James came out to give me a quote the day after I called his office and the work was completed the next week. Very prompt and neat work, you can hardly even tell where they dug to lay the pipes. Have had to call for a few minor issues since the work was completed and the guys came right out and solved the problems. Overall I would highly recommend."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Pflugerville, TX

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
