"Robbie was a life saver, as I wasn't sure how I was going to deal with the filing the two doors. He let me know the glass door didn't have a real lock but he could put one in to match my front door. He even suggested which glass door would be best (I have three.) He was very personable, friendly, helpful, and willing to do the extra job that suddenly came up without a fuss. He spent a few hours making sure he covered all the bases and that I was satisfied. He even phoned me cause he saw me lingering at the front door lock when he was pulling away to make sure everything was okay. (I was actually trying to take the combination key lock off the door which had nothing to do with the work he did.) You can imagine how exhausted my husband and I are with this big move, and to have someone come in and take something unexpected off our list with such attention to detail was just amazing! I will without a doubt recommend Harvey's services to anyone."

"We could not be happier with the work that they did. Professional, courteous, respectful, kind, and affordable! I was unaware of the scope of the actual work that needed to be done so they were not able to complete it on the first visit. I should clarify that I am the one who asked them to stop working for the evening. They were willing to keep going. First thing the next morning they were at our front door and immediately began to work. We were so happy with what they did that we have already asked Juan to come back and start on a few other projects we need completed."

"Mr. Baker visited my house and provided a free estimate to replace the top exterior window pane of a double hung 6 light vinyl window. He explained in detail the scope of the work to be performed and the time it would take to complete it.The price quote was $235. I said I wanted to think about it and he said that was ok and I could call him later that evening if I wanted him to do the work the next day. I called that evening and he returned the following day to pick up the window. He returned it the same day in about 5 hours (as promised) and reinstalled the window. I was extremely pleased with the work and prompt service. Considering the door to door service, free onsite estimate, convenience, and quality of the work, I think the price was very good. It was also a real pleasure working with Ralph and I would definitely recommend his services to others. Thanks Ralph! <br />"

".When he replaced the spline it was not installed properly.  Hence the screen detached and I needed him to return for a repair once again. <br /> <br /> The first repair was done on June 20, 2014 by mid July the screen became detached.  I had spoken to him several times.  He told me he was extremely busy.  It was not until April 28, 2015 until he returned to do the repair.  He charged me full price once again for replacing another whole screen."

FAQs for door or window screens install or repair projects in Philadelphia, PA

Most off-the-shelf screens come in fixed sizes, ranging from 18 inches by 20 inches to 36 inches by 74 inches, which fit the vast majority of residential windows. If your opening falls outside that range or has a unique shape, you’ll need a custom screen built to the exact measurements. Going custom ensures a secure fit, a solid barrier against bugs, and a clean, finished look.

The decision to repair or replace your screen depends on the extent of the damage. Small holes or tears in otherwise solid mesh can be patched, and a sturdy frame usually doesn’t need to go anywhere. However, once the frame is bent or the mesh is brittle and fraying in several spots, replacement becomes a more sensible option—and often proves to be less costly in the long run. Take a close look at both parts before making a decision.

To rescreen a window, start by prying out the old spline, then lift the torn mesh from the frame. Lay the new screen over the frame, allowing about an inch of excess on all sides, and hold it in place while pressing fresh spline into the groove with a roller. Check that the mesh is taut—many pros rest a small brick on it while they work—then trim the overhang with a utility knife.

Most window screens last for 10 to 12 years. Time, sun, and weather gradually make the mesh brittle, so you’ll start to see sagging, rips, or thinning spots that let bugs get through. Check the screens each season; if the mesh crumbles or the frame warps, it’s time to replace them to keep air flowing and pests outside.

Most pros can swap out a screen in 10 minutes to an hour. A quick pop‑in replacement goes fastest, while fitting new mesh into an existing frame or working on a hard‑to‑reach upper window adds time. Either way, plan for at least a few extra minutes per screen so the installer can verify the fit and ensure the spline is seated correctly.
