"If you are looking for someone to do foundation work on your home or business, Engineered Foundation Solutions are the people to call! After contacting them through their website, I was contacted the next day to set an appointment for an estimate. They worked with my schedule and I met with Brian within 5 days. I explained to Brian my problem and they developed a plan to solve it . I had an proposal in 3 days. After I sent my down payment and they put me on their schedule, Shannon their office manager contacted me every Friday to keep me updated that they were still coming on that date. Jeff their engineer, came to my house a week before work was to start to go over the work to be performed and answer my questions. Their work crew was very friendly and professional. From day one, I felt like they cared about solving my problem and that we were part of their family. I highly recommend Engineered Foundation Solutions for all you foundation repair needs!"

"After many years of dealing with a damp, leaky basement and all of the headaches that come from it, I finally had enough and called AquaGuard. Everyone I spoke with from the first phone call into the office, to the owner Tom and crew were great! The install crew of Shawn, Clyde and Aaron are quite a team! They took care of my home like it was their own. They were professional, knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. I can't say enough about what a great group of people they are. My basement has never looked or smelled this good! I was embarrassed to have people see it before. Now, it is beautiful! The system has performed like a champ during the last several heavy rains and if you looked at my basement now, you would never know what a mess it was. Before, I was sopping up water, embarrassed by ugly stained walls and dealing with musty awful smells. Now, I enjoy going into my basement. I have peace of mind that my basement and home are protected. The price I paid for the service was very reasonable and well worth every penny. AquaGuard's reputation proceeds them. I read all of the wonderful reviews and can now add my own glowing review! Give AquaGuard a call! You will not be disappointed!"
One of our crew members replaces the concrete slab. The miradrain is visible along the left perimeter as well as the plastic vapor barrier placed over the gravel. This helps prevent moisture from working thru the concrete during periods of heavy rain.
The 4 inch perforated pipe has been covered with 2B washed gravel. The miradrain (black waffle-like border) along the wall allows the bleeder holes to remain open when the floor is replaced. It also ensures that the water will pass over the footer as it feeds into the 4 inch perforated pipe along the footer. In this case we were able to work behind the furnace and hot water tank without removing them.

"Price and Vaughn agreed to pick up an exterior painting and carpentry job that had already been contracted to someone who failed to perform at the high level of quality that had been promised. We were impressed with their eye for detail, the professional business manner, their treatment of their employees, and the overall outstanding end product. We called them back for 2 other jobs, and will call them again without question."

"Mario Rivera Renovations, professional and experienced. They work efficiently, to a high standard, attention to detail and quality. They have excellent workmanship with customer satisfaction. They worked with us to understand our needs and expectations. They have very good practical suggestions and produce quality work. They are pleasant and very easy to work with. Mario's estimates are fair and he kept to the budget. Mario is very responsive and timely. Mario continually kept us informed of the progress. They cleaned up the work area at the end of each working day. I have used Mario's services for several large projects. This latest project was a bathroom remodel and we are very happy with the finished project. I highly recommend Mario Rivera Renovations and their services."

"Bryan, this was just 4 of the 8 hours, the remaining 4 hours will be done at a later date. Once arranged (I caused the delays due to my schedule not Bryan), Bryan showed up at the scheduled time with the ordered fire door. The door was cut to size (small opening), installed and reversed to open the opposite direction. The opener and electrical device was relocated. A plywood wall was installed for storage of hanging bicycles. He did a professional job. I look forward to the remaining work."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Pittsburgh, PA

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
