"Designing Home did an amazing job from start to finish on our bathroom remodel. At the beginning, they took our requirements and gave their experienced feedback to help us get our vision into a plan. The execution was then very methodical and precise. It didn’t feel like the project was being rushed just to move on to another client. The result is beautiful and exactly how we envisioned it. Thank you so much for your knowledge and great work!"

"Just getting done idea of costs for projects being considered. Rudy was very nice at taking time to come over and discuss what we wanted done. He gave us an estimate on labor which we felt was a fair cost for what we wanted done. He was more than willing to get samples of materials needed fir us and get prices. He showed us some pictures of work he had done and was doing. We would consider contacting him again in the future."

"Miller’s was contracted to completely restore my guest room/office after it was destroyed during Hurricane Ian. Excellent communication throughout the process, working with me to coordinate around other contractors. Quality cabinets, shelving units and Murphy bed. What really impressed me was me needing assistance nearly THREE YEARS after the job and Ian handled my request at no cost. This company cares about their customers and keeping them happy long after the sale is completed. "

"Great experience.  Prompt, courteous, professional service.  No hidden costs.  I chose Cornerstone because this is their primary business.  I got an estimate from a home improvement store, but while I was there, a customer called needing immediate attention and his salesperson was out to lunch.  Upon returning from lunch, my salesperson gave him the message, but he refused to return the call right away saying he was busy and had other things to do, even though he was told the installer was there with questions.  Cornerstone's estimate was higher than the home improvement store, but the courtesy, service, and promptness were worth the extra dollars.  I am a highly satisfied customer.  Another difference is that when I chose my countertops, at the home improvement store, I was shown a 1x3 inch chip.  At Cornerstone, I actually walked through their warehouse and yard and could look at full pieces or quartz and granite.  I was also given a large sample to take home and make sure of my final choice. From the time I approved the estimate to the time my countertops were installed was approximately 1 week.  My design consultant, Donna Smith, was excellent with offering suggestions and spent a great deal of time with me.  The installation crew headed by Jackson was very efficient and professional.  There was a slight problem with the size of the backsplash and one of the crew was sent back to Ft. Myers to have it recut correctly.  (It was a 1 1/2 hour trip back to Ft. Myers.) The other two continued working, completing what they could while waiting.  He returned later that day, backsplash was installed, work all completed and they cleaned up. ( I just feel like another company would have either tried to make the wrong size work, messing up my wall tile, OR they would have said oh we have to go have this recut, we'll be back next week). <br /> You can expect quality service with this company."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Port Charlotte, FL

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
