"We bought a home that unfortunately had 2 units over 20 years old. We received a letter and coupon from Service Star for annual maintenance (addressed to previous owner). We had not been having any issues with our AC but thought maintenance was pretty important, especially with summer coming. Louis came out on Tuesday, April 28th and did a thorough inspection of our units. He was very friendly, engaging and we felt confident and convinced that he was quite knowledgeable in this field. Turns out there were big issues with our unit including the huge mold issue, coil issue, fire hazard issues, etc. (yikes!). Our units were working pretty hard and getting pretty hot and there was zero efficiency going on. Basically, the life of our units had come to an end. We opted to replace the units and he gave us a pretty good deal which included upgrading the digital thermostats (pretty awesome!). My husband is a vet so there was a nice discount I appreciated how he explained everything to us and outlined what replacing the units entailed. We were pleasantly surprised that they had the units available and could start the work that day! There was a two-person crew that came in around 3:30 and was completely done and cleaned up by 10:30 pm. No small project. They were professional, competent and worked diligently to completion. We were quite impressed and what a big difference in the quality of air! We can say enough good things about Service Star, we definitely recommend them for all HVAC needs. GREAT job Service Star. Triple-A rating!!"

"After having our home A/C unit replaced 4 years ago by a local HVAC company we have had nothing but problems with it. The original installer did make attempts to figure it out but not a single one of their guesses worked. Plus they only wanted to work on it when the weather was cooler. While talking with a realtor friend, we asked if she knew anyone and she said her office recommended Ellington. And so I called to see if they would be willing to take a look at our system. After the initial two-hour, two-man investigation by David & Joey, they noted that the air handler stand was too high for the geometry of the original ductwork, causing flow stagnation, and that the new unit that had been installed was too powerful for the existing ductwork. They suggested the air handler stand to be removed, rebuilt and lowered. When taking it apart they found that the air handler had been not been installed plumb and it wasn’t draining properly. The condensate drain line needed to be redone and the 2nd stage of the compressor was bad too. They also discovered that there was a short in the thermostat wire. That wire is what sends the signal from the thermostat to the air handler so the unit was skipping 1st speed and going right to 2nd speed and blowing hot humid air into the house. No wonder our A/C never worked properly, there was a multitude of issues with it! John, Sean, David, Joey, Dustin, Christian, Jay, and Corey, were all very knowledgeable, experienced, and super professional. Plus they had no problem working during the summer which also makes Ellington extra phenomenal. They were an amazing team who worked diligently together to figure out the source of the problems, come up with viable solutions and then fixed them. Joey was absolutely amazing and was a terrific communicator with us as the problems were being identified, which was no easy task since there was one after another. It gets even better. Even though the installation was done by another contractor, Ellington still handled the warranty paperwork with Trane to cover all the needed parts. Just more excellent customer service from Ellington. What we learned from this ordeal is you can purchase the latest state of the art equipment but if you want it installed properly, then it’s also important to have skilled technicians who are trained and up to date with the current technology needed to correctly position these advanced units in place. This goes for troubleshooting too. While most of our A/C problems did stem from a poor installation the bad wire was nobody’s fault. Because Corey was a competent technician who was up to speed with the modern technology of the unit, he was able to diagnose it! Thank you again Mr. Ellington, Joey, David, John, Sean, Dustin, Christian, Jay, and Corey. Ours was a challenging job but because of your commitment to professionalism we now have our beautiful air-conditioned house back and are forever grateful."

"Ben Jr. and David of A.C. Goodier, Inc., 221 State Ave., Holly Hill, FL, came to our home today to install a new Tempstar Air Conditioner-Heat Pump system. It can get quite hot down here in Florida in the summer time and given that our air handler is located in the attic, Ben Jr. had asked if they could start early. At 6:40 a.m. their truck rolled up to our door...and we were ready for them. Everything went smoothly until they found that our previous drain system had gotten clogged and an auxiliary drain was needed. No problem. They got the parts, installed the new drain line quickly, and got the Air Conditioner/Heat Pump system up and running within the 4-hour time frame they had given us. Ben Jr. and David were absolutely great. In fact, we were so happy with the service they provided that we called their boss immediately to let him know. This is not the first time we worked with Ben Jr. and David. We had them service another of our previous residences a couple of years ago and knew that we wanted them to do this job as well since we were so pleased with their previous work. They were quick, professional, and went beyond the call of duty in making sure that we were completely satisfied with their work. We highly recommend A.C. Goodier, Inc. of Holly Hill, FL for any of your A/C-H/P needs. If you ask for Ben Jr. and David, you won't be disappointed! Great guys, a great company, and great service. The company's motto is: and quot;Quality Doesn't Cost, It Pays!and quot; That perfectly sums it up!

"David Johnson examined the A/C system and determined that the thermal expansion valve was bad.  They replaced it, recharged the system and it has worked perfectly since the repair. (Cost: $350.00)
My Honda dealer had looked at the system and quoted over $2000.00 to repair it because they said the compressor was bad. I could not believe  that a 2-1/2 year old car could need compressor replacement.

"When I called, Ian showed up within a half hour. He diagnosed the problem, went and picked up the parts and fixed the RV. Thereafter Ian called about 3 different times just to make sure that the work he provided was still working. Wrench Man Mobile is a mobile mechanic service. After returning home from my trip; Ian did more work for me at the house on my RV. He is very reasonably priced. Ian follows up to make sure his customers are satisfied. I will continue to use Wrench Man Mobile and highly recommend his service."

FAQs for window a/c unit service or relocation projects in Port Orange, FL

If your window air conditioner is relatively new or of high quality, repairing it can restore optimal performance and protect your investment. However, for older units or those with ongoing issues, it might be more cost-effective to replace the unit to ensure long-term efficiency and reliability. Consider the unit's age, the severity of the problem, repair costs versus replacement, and energy efficiency ratings when making your decision. If repairs cost more than half the price of a new unit, replacement is typically the better option.

Window air conditioners last eight to ten years on average. After this time, you may notice decreased efficiency and component wear. Replacing an older unit can improve energy savings and provide updated features like remote controls and better overall performance. With proper maintenance including regular filter cleaning, coil checks, and professional servicing, you can maximize your unit's lifespan.

If your portable AC isn't cooling, it might have a refrigerant leak or a circuit malfunction that's preventing it from working properly. It's best to contact a local air conditioner contractor to inspect and repair the unit. If your AC is older and repairs don't fix the issue, replacing it might be the most effective solution.

Removing a wall-mounted AC costs $55 to $75. Completing the removal yourself at the end of each summer season, being sure to do so according to proper guidelines, keeps you within this cost range. Should you require professional assistance for removal and disposal, if you can't move the unit yourself, expect an added fee of $25 to $50 to the overall cost.
