"The provider was very professional, punctual, and pleasant. Unfortunately we just bought this house and can't swing paying for a full waterproofing. It would involve putting drainage channels around the inside perimeter of our basement and pouring a new floor. Also it would involve installing a new sump pump (we had already installed one) and buying a new dehumidifier (we had already bought one). When these wear out, we will most likely contact TC Hafford to install bigger and better than what we have now. But he gave me some nice tips to deal with our issues in the interim. He didn't do a hard sell which increases the likelihood that we will use him in the future! <br />"

"I wish the letter ratings had plus and minus values because Brent was a <br /> B+ for most of these categories.  He was easy to work with and we felt the pricing was very fair.   Our hesitancy to post A ratings overall is because of two issues: We know that he sometimes left the work until the last minute and therefore had to rush through things which was the reason for the second complaint: There was inconsistent quality in the details.  For instance, when it came time to put the knobs on the cabinets I said that I could do it myself.  He insisted that he, as a professional could do a better job so I let him do it.  The knobs were put on in a rush(by his own admission) and were not leveled or centered very well.  We felt this was such a shame as he had done such a beautiful job putting the cabinets in. <br /> <br /> But overall we were happy with the work.  We live far away in Baltimore and it has been hard to find good contractors who we could work with from a distance.  Brent was flexible and put up with a lot of messaging back and forth. <br /> <br /> We would use him again in fact we have more work lined up for him to do. <br />"

"We began planning the project in the summer and again, Chris Moon was our project manager. The project began in the fall, after we left for the season. It was a much more difficult and complicated project than we expected because of the nature of the sewer lines necessitating water to be pumped upward. Permits were complicated and took more time than usual but Chris persisted and everything was eventually approved. The project included a double shower, toilet, sink and linen closet. It is very spacious and laid out beautifully. The project was completely done by Hazelwood and sub-contractors coordinates by them. Electrical, plumbing, painting and al finishing. Washer and dryer were also re-located and rough in’s were done for a future laundry sink. All work has been completed. The winter presented many challenges during this construction that were all handled and resolved. Everything was left in order. In the next few months, we plan to complete finishing the rest of the basement. Plans have already been discussed and I look forward to working with Chris again. His work ethic is exceptional and he is simply a caring person who gets the job done with the highest level of professionalism. Certainly Hazelwood is lucky to have him. Thanks again, Hazelwood!"

"They are honest about things that needed to be done, that he could or could not do. He has a lot going on and so he has to work on bigger project first but that is common. Sometimes if he do not have a big job you cannot really expect to get quick service, that kind of goes for a lot of people. I would use his services again in the future, as eventually it’s the right thing."

FAQs for foundation, basement or crawlspace waterproofing / encapsulation projects in Portland, ME

The most affordable way to waterproof your basement is with interior methods like waterproof paint, costing between $1 and $8 per square foot, or silicate concrete sealers priced at $4 to $6 per square foot. However, these solutions are only suitable for certain issues. If your basement moisture is due to more serious problems like a cracked foundation, you'll need more extensive (and costly) repairs.

Absolutely! Waterproofing your basement is a smart investment that can increase your home's value. By keeping your basement dry and free of moisture problems, you protect your home's structural integrity and make it more appealing to potential buyers. Plus, taking proactive measures now can prevent costly water damage repairs down the line.

The time required to waterproof a basement depends on the selected method. Some approaches to interior waterproofing, like paint or sealant, can be completed within a day. Installing new drains or weeping tiles will need at least two to three days of labor. Any forms of exterior waterproofing that require you to excavate land will require an additional three days of work to prepare the ground.

Yes, basement waterproofing can significantly increase your home's value. A dry, leak-free basement is a strong selling point for potential buyers, enhancing your property's desirability and market price. Investing in professional waterproofing not only protects your home's structural integrity but also ensures a healthier living environment by preventing mold and mildew growth.

Waterproofing both the interior and exterior of your basement offers the best protection against moisture. Exterior waterproofing stops water from penetrating your foundation, while interior methods manage any moisture that does enter. If you must choose one, exterior waterproofing is generally more effective, as it prevents water from reaching your home's interior in the first place.
