We hired John Wood of JAW Construction to transform a building shell originally intended to be a shop for building trusses into a small house (officially an auxiliary dwelling unit or ADU) and are thrilled we found him. The job required skills that extended beyond new construction to include the insight, skill and craftsmanship of a highly experienced remodeling expert. He possessed these in spades. Beyond his own expertise, he has assembled a set of sub-contractors that are excellent craftsmen in their own areas of expertise. The job was doubly challenging given that for much of the construction period we were out of state getting our old home ready for sale. This also meant that an extra element of trust was involved. John sent us pictures of the progress, so that we could monitor from a distance. In addition, he was able to identify and rectify several flaws in our design. As with any large construction/remodeling project, there were some unexpected expenses that came up, but John worked with us to help limit cost overruns, sometimes foregoing profits. He was also always up front about the costs of the various components. Our new home is gorgeous and reflects his sharp eye for detail. We couldn’t be happier. "We completed an extensive remodel in the finishing of our basement. This included structural work which required moving multiple structural supports. The group was professional and competent. The design plans were finalized working with Mike B. who had good ideas, was organized and very pleasant. The majority of the work was performed by our contractor Josh who was highly capable, attentive to detail and a pleasure to work with from start to finish. The supervising contractor Mike M. was great and he was in contact throughout the job As is typical for any major remodel, some issues came up, specifically with the subs, and Josh and Mike M. were there to make sure that issues were resolved in a fair and appropriate manner. "We had tree fall on our garage roof and puncture all the way through the ceiling. Golden Hawk responded promptly, removed the tree and tarped the roof until we could get the insurance sorted out. We got other estimates for the remaining repairs, but Golden Hawk was the best price with the most clearly written proposal and excellent customer service. We hired them to complete all the repairs. They installed new roof/gutter flashing and brought all up to code. Inside of house, replaced and repaired drywall, and matched old paint perfectly.
