"Randy and his crew came in and knocked it out of the park for us! We had a settled gravel driveway that pooled up each time it rained. Randy came in and graded it nicely, installed a new culvert by the road and drain by our garage, and left things looking immaculate. Thanks again for the great service and communication!"

Customers say: True professional

"Fernando and his team with SAFE-FER Landscaping was recommended to us by a local nursery/business. We hired SAFE-FER Landscaping to work on our backyard - adding privacy with palm trees/plants, sod installation, and sprinkler system. Fernando is knowledgeable, a dedicated worker, and friendly. Fernando and his team have always done a great job. We have been very happy with their work, as it has transformed out outdoor living space. We plan to hire them again to help with hedging along the street side of our fencing and to spruce up our front yard. We would definitely recommend them."

"Rich and his team did an awesome job. This is a long private drive with three houses. They completed the job in one day. We had some minor cracking and they came back quickly and completed the repair. Definitely would hire RSA again."

"First I should have be apprehensive from the start cause Nick the “owner’ didn’t response to texts or calls. After agreeing to start the job with sod preparation he never should up and never called, I had to call him and his excuse was it was gonna rain but he never called to inform me he wasn’t coming. He shoes up with two guys who did all the work and one guy got sick within an hour of the job and he leaves. The owner vanished for half the day with one guy who could do anything until he came back. The remaining guy was a self proclaimed beginner who literally laid 100% on the sod himself. I wouldn’t recommend this company to my worse enemy. Shady business practices when it came to the payment."

"Overall, I am very pleased with the work that DC Lawn Service provided.  They were punctual and upfront about the amount and cost of mulch that I would need. They covered the beds adequately.   I have a large yard with large flowerbeds.  They left the work areas clean and I was impressed with that.  The only thing that I will ask them to do next time is to lay down some weed killer pellets before they install the new mulch.  Perhaps that will slow the regrowth of the weeds which was almost instantaneous after the mulch was installed.

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Saint Petersburg, FL

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
