"I have been dealing with a recalcitrant shower valve for some time (the manufacturer, Eljer, is no longer in business and the exact cartridge needed is hard to find) thus the main water shutoff valve had been used fairly often. Unfortunately, it broke in the "on" position and began to leak around 4:00 pm one afternoon. I looked up plumbers on "Nextdoor" and began to call. This was the first answer I received and was instructed on how to use the outdoor shutoff. The call ended when he offered to come by to help if I couldn't get it under control in 15 minutes, which I was able to do. He showed up as promised the next morning, quickly replaced the valve with a far superior one in minutes, and efficiently cleaned up the dust produced by having to saw through some drywall.
