"Cannot say enough good about this company’s crew from the first contact Mike Bing to our project manager Adrian O’Donoghue right down to the main installer Gilbert. Very responsive to all our needs and questions. I’m not sure you loves the turf more, our dog or us! It’s beautiful and the paver edging just completes the look tying right into our existing paver patio."

"<p>Unique Concrete is an excellent company.  We were referred to Ignacio one of the owners by our designer.  My husband pushed me to go with a cheaper contractor.  What a mess, the owner never showed up, the work was not done correctly and the footings for the travertine patio were poured with cement from a wheelbarrow. I felt like I needed to be outside overseeing the job constantly.  One evening while traveling I got a call that the contractor had by accident broken our gas line - he said he had capped it off.  But, due to my inability to trust him I called a plumber to go out immediately.  I questioned why he told me this at 7pm?</p> <p> I was not only uncomfortable with the work but not happy with the type of individuals the contractor was sending to our home.  </p> <p>I spoke with the designer and put a stop on the job, the same day - embarrassed I called Ignacio from Unique Concrete Creations - told him how unhappy I was and he came over within an hour. The job was on a hillside with lots of retaining walls. Ignacio recommended that I call calstone who was provider of the allen block wall to come out and see what they thought about the installation, this was the support for me to know it was time to remove the original contractor, the walls were being installed and had been installed incorrectly.  Calstone and Ignacio worked together to set up a plan to repair the work.  Ignacio took control and helped every step of the way, he let me know if we needed more product or if we would need to change something which would add cost each time allowing me to approve all cost increases.  In terms of setting up the travertine patio he took out the poor foundation and brought in a truck to poor foundation all around the patio with deeper footings at the hillside.  Everything was done so expert, all the individuals who work for Unique Concrete are professional, many of them family members.  </p> <p>Ignacio took care of approvals for the gas line and my meter upgrade due to and upgrade in gas lines for our outdoor BQ and ultimate fireplace.  He also measured all my spaces and MDA to make sure we met the city's requirements and set up those appointments and made sure everything worked according to permits.  I would highly recommend Unique Concrete Creations.  I will never consider another company regarding my backyard work they are excellent and do long lasting work.  </p> Going with a cheaper contractor in the beginning is sunk cost and a waste of time and effort, dealing with that contractor and having to get rid of him took years off my life, life is too short.  Hire contractors who know what they are doing you cannot go wrong hiring Unique Concrete Creations.  I cannot wait to be finished and have the whole group over for a BQ they all feel like part of our family. <br />"

"Mario and his employees are the best! From the beginning to end, Mario provided us with the best service. We are very satisfied with the work that was done by Mario and his employees. I contacted him by phone, and he came immediately for a free estimate. He sent me a proposal for the work that I requested and his price was very good. Mario answered all of my emails and questions promptly. They also tried really hard to accommodate around our busy schedule and completed the entire job in 1 day. I left the home so they could work on the floors, and to my surprise, Mario personally called me on the phone to update me on the status. He asked if I had any questions or concerns. When I returned home, the floors were so shiny and the grout was clean. Everything was sealed. The marble floors looked better than when it was first installed. The employees asked that I inspect the floors to make sure I was happy with the results and see if they missed anything. Everything was perfect, Mario and his team were professional, fast, and provided us with top quality work. We will definitely hire them again for our future stone care needs."

"Khiem and his team were great. We had a very clear design idea of what we were trying to achieve and DAC was able to achieve it at a reasonable cost. We found Khiem to be trustworthy and reliable. When unexpected conditions were discovered, he offered value engineering suggestions to complete the work, maintaining the design intent without exceeding our budget. The few plants that had issues, or items that were not installed per the documented design intent were quickly remedied without debate or added cost. He also clearly takes pride in his work and checked up a few times months later in person to ensure his work was holding up and is meeting expectations. In the end, it took a little longer than we originally anticipated to complete the work, but we were very satisfied with the result and would definitely hire DAC again in the future for our landscaping needs."

"we got off to a very late start relative to the start date. Adam Wooley has a small crew so when whether or revisions to other jobs conspired to make one or two run long, we slipped several months in his schedule. We were disappointed but in talking with him and viewing his portfolio, we were comfortable waiting. He gave us a $500 discount on the job for the inconvenience and it went super smoothly once he got started. There was some design tweaks we discussed midway and he was so receptive and responsive to making aesthetic changes while balancing the drainage and runoff concerns that had led to the original layout. The front of our house has been transformed and we love it. Our neighbors and strangers stop to admire it and ask about the work. <br />"

"We were in the process of selling our condo, and we needed Paul to fix up our patio (700sf) in preparation for the sale. Paul came over, quickly checked out what was needed, and made a couple of suggestions (one was a sealing product which would make the tiles shine better for presentation). We agreed on the start date and then he started. He starts very early, and replacing some of the older or aged tiles was noisy, but ended up getting the tiles replaced within 1 day. He also fixed up some of the older and overgrown plants, replacing them with younger, nice plants which would present better in an Open House. Since the tiles needed one full day to cure, and returned 2 days later to clean. This took about 1 hour. The sealing needed to dry and cure for, again, 24 hours, and he came back 2 days later to seal the tiles with the high-gloss sealant. This was a fairly short process; it only took about 2 hours. Everything was done quickly, and Paul made sure to clean up after himself and his team. All-in-all, given the work performed, and the purpose of the work needed, Paul really came through and gave us a patio which would help complement our condo for sale. I would definitely use Paul's landscaping business again. <br />"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in San Francisco, CA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
