"We needed our Garbage Disposal replaced. We bought one, but realized we needed help to get it installed. Mike Counsil to the rescue. This is the 3rd time we have had work done by them. Last year they redid the pipes in our house, so it was a no brainer to call them for help with disposal installation! They communicate during the entire thing. Called and showed up when they said they would. This time we had Besmir and Jordy doing the work. Very friendly, explained what they needed to do, made suggestions along the way. Cleaned up afterwards. Great experience overall!"

"The Groundworks folks (formerly Bay Area Underpinning) applied their foundation-underpinning technology and expertise to extend to bedrock, level, square up the foundation for an extensive house remodel. I was most impressed by the young man onsite supervisor, Josh who answered all my work done, how and why questions. I wish this info was provided up front by the estimator. (My design-build remodel contractor referred this company). "

"Plumbing work performed well: installed a new faucet, able to fix minor water drip from an old valve, and provided advice on installing a new valve in the near future. Friendly, approachable, and knowledgeable."

"Working with Streamline Pluming from the time of inception of me wanting to replace the lateral in my home until the work is done as a positive and hassle-free experience. Their price is very competitive, their conduct was professional and they deliver what they promise in writing. In addition their work complied with all the local requirements whether it is a license, passing inspection or cleaning the worksite afterwards. I highly recommend Streamline and I would hire them again if I ever need another lateral to be replaced. Thank you Greg, April and Crew for a job well done. "Lonzo and team promptly came out, tried clearing the blockage, and had to bring in additional line to get to the issue. It turned out that the issue was somewhere between the house and the street. Had to excavate the front walkway and portion of the lawn to check the sewer pipe, and found that an old Oleander bush root broke into the clay sewer pipe. Alpha plumbing located the problem, offered alternate solutions, (we chose to replace the whole pipe rather than just the affected section and had them install two two-way sewer clean out access points (one by the sidewalk and one by the house), Lonzo and his team dug up and removed the Oleander bush. They were quick, professional, and caring about our situation. We are back in business, thank God!"

"Our house was undergoing external remodeling. All the pounding on the house by the construction crew seemed to dislodge the pipe connection under one of our master bathroom sinks. One evening, my husband suddenly had a minor flood when he ran water in his sink. <br /> Within a day, I was able to schedule Budget Plumbing and Drain Cleaning. Since Pat was coming over, I also had him look at the other minor items that were bothering me with our plumbing. He was very professional, kept me updated on what he was doing and the costs involved. I found him to be very reasonable. My dad is a retired plumber, so I liked that Pat was very tidy and tested the new pipe connection to verify that the leak was totally gone. <br />"

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in San Mateo, CA

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
