"Walter and his crew did an excellent job completely relandscaping my yard from the ground up. They ground a stump, did the grading, installed retaining walls and underground drainage, installed sod, planted all kinds plants, and laid boulders, gravel and pavers. They also built two giant brick walls that collectively stretched about half an acre. They were professional, respectful, responsive, kind and they showed up when they said they would. A couple times mistakes were made because of me and they corrected it and didn’t charge me. Overall, we received a great value for the price we paid and we highly recommend their services."

"I had a leaky sprinkler system, and checked Angie's List for specialists. Brad @ By The Yard Landscaping & Irrigation had an A+ rating and a AAA rating by the Better Business Bureau, so I decided to go with him after speaking with him on the phone, and describing the problem. Now, I'm used to companies hiring contractors, so I was shocked that Brad himself appeared to do the work! He was on time, professional, good-natured, and a good communicator. He located the shut-off valve (after some digging) and then gave me several options. I went with the more flexible option, and within 10 minutes he had capped off the system and we were done. The best part is that it cost signficantly less than what he quoted me, which is great because covid has not been kind to my family financially. Most contractors will stick to the quote, or usually more! For the first time, I didn't feel ripped off by someone doing work. Anyway, Brad was awesome and I recommend him 100%"

"Bill and Ray were easy to work with. They had good ideas, were very accommodating, knowledgable and experienced. The install team (Frank and guys) did an amazing job. They had very high standards, took pride in their work, and were respectful of us and our property. They communicated well. The quality of work was superior. They transformed our backyard into a beautiful area. They installed synthetic grass, lots of pavers, a dry creek bed along with plants and boulders. We highly recommend them for your landscape project."

"GREAT! And refreshing to have a service provider do the work they were asked to do. The owner answers the calls himself and returns calls promptly if he is unavailable. Polite, professional, on-time. Personable too. I was comfortable chatting with the workers (one being the owner) as they picked up all the debris. Without hesitation, we will use them again when/if needed. <br /> Also, they have a contractors business. For our next project, we will definitely be sure to include them in the runnings of who we obtain estimates from. Yep, all because of what I already wrote. Doing what is asked and paid for and with professionalism goes A LONG WAY. It is difficult to find quality services in Abq and I bring my standards and expectations from growing up in the Midwest. <br /> <br /> <br />"

"Responsiveness, professionalism, quality of work, and ease of working with Narrow Leaf was all first rate. Tom provided and was open to several different options - he was objective and knowledgeable about all the different options, letting me know all the pros and cons. The guys that did the installation did a great job - work looks great, and they left everything nice and clean. I would not hesitate to work with Narrow Leaf again."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Sandia Park, NM

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
