"I talked to Ginger yesterday who said she'd get Mike out to our house today at 12noon. By 12:30pm, he wasn't here & nobody called to explain why not. I called & left a cordial message stating such. I tried several more times but never reached anybody. It is now 7:30pm and we still NEVER got a phone call or message!! Why didn't they call us back or explain why they NEVER showed up?! If this is the kind of shoddy "service" they gave....can you imagine how bad the work would be?! These people are NOT professional at all. NEVER will use them, & you shouldn't either!!!"

Stone By Stone Construction LLC. is owned by Peter Warnke. Peter works with local sub-contractors who he has developed relationships with over his 12 years in the industry. Creating a consistent ongoing relationship with people in the industry allows budgets and schedules to be met on a consistent basis. We require no money down and bill projects on a completion basis once a month. If your project will be completed within a months time then you would only see one bill at the end of project. We accept credit cards but at this point offer no financing options.
"Peter took 90k from us, lied repeatedly, finished about 1/3 of the project, did not get a permit, and then abandoned the job. He didn’t pay subcontractors and has absconded with our money. Working with this crook has been one of the worst experiences of our lives."

Calculating gravel requirements starts with measuring your driveway's length and width in feet. For a standard driveway, aim for approximately four inches of depth. Multiply these three dimensions to find cubic feet, then divide by 27 to convert to cubic yards. For example, a 24-foot by 12-foot driveway at four inches deep requires 3.5 cubic yards of gravel. Your specific needs may vary based on soil conditions and expected traffic.
Crusher run (also called crush and run) offers the most economical option, with prices ranging from $0.40 to $2 per square foot or $20 to $25 per cubic yard. This mixture of stone dust and crushed stone compacts well, making it ideal for functional applications like driveway bases.
Local quarry gravel also tends to be affordable due to minimal transportation costs. The trade-off comes in appearance—these budget options lack the decorative appeal of pricier alternatives.
A full truckload of pea gravel costs between $250 and $500, with pricing variations based on truck capacity, material type, and your location. Standard delivery trucks carry 10 to 15 cubic yards of material.
Ordering by the truckload often provides better value for larger projects compared to multiple smaller deliveries. Many suppliers include reasonable-distance delivery in these prices, making it an economical option for substantial projects.
Well-installed gravel surfaces can maintain their functionality for many years with proper maintenance. Traffic intensity, weather conditions, and installation quality all affect longevity. Regular maintenance—including raking displaced stones back into position and addressing drainage issues—extends useful life significantly.
Many homeowners find they need to add a refresher layer every few years, particularly in high-traffic areas or regions with severe weather conditions.
Adding gravel over an existing surface is possible with proper preparation. Start by thoroughly cleaning the current surface and addressing any significant damage or drainage issues. A stable foundation prevents shifting in your new layer. Consider adding a thin base layer before applying the decorative surface gravel.
Remember that adding material increases the overall height, which may affect garage entrances or property access points. When done correctly, this approach can refresh your driveway's appearance without complete reconstruction.
Gravel offers significantly lower initial costs at approximately $1 to $3 per square foot installed for standard types, compared to the substantially higher upfront investment for asphalt or concrete. However, gravel requires more frequent maintenance and occasional material replenishment.
Paved surfaces demand less regular attention but face expensive repairs when cracks or damage occur. Your decision should consider not just initial expense but also maintenance capabilities, climate conditions, and aesthetic preferences for your property.
