"I was pleased with the work Envy Sunrooms building the new sunroom on the back of our house. The helped us work through the permitting process, including getting a zoning variance from the city. The sunroom and the expanded patio look beautiful. The quality of the materials is great, and they were able to install the lighting fixtures we purchased. I was pleased with the work that the carpenters and the electrician did, and they kept me informed throughout the project."

"Angelo Pecoraro, the owner of A.P. Builder, was a pleasure to work with from start to finish on our major remodeling project of adding a sunroom to our home. Out of many contractors I called to get an estimate, he was the only one willing to provide options to have the project fit our budget. Once we agreed to move forward, he worked diligently with the architect and village to get the permits finalized (which is a difficult task in my town). Once the work started, he provided almost daily updates of the work that will be completed and any anticipated inspections (which we passed easily). He also reached out himself to finalize details from big items like windows to small ones like the molding. The result was a beautiful sunroom and deck which I receive compliments on regularly. Do yourself a favor and for your next major home remodel/renovation work with Angelo and A.P. Builder!"

"They were supposed to give a quote for the sunroom and there was a delay in getting the block windows. They did five block windows and two regular windows. Their getting back to me was not timely. I will use them next year, I just don't like the fact that they didn't get back to e about the sunroom, I don't know if they're stretched."

"
We had always wanted to add additional living space to our 1400 sq. ft. ranch home.  We had always had (40 years) a cement patio that led from our patio doors from our kitchen.  It got limited use due to heat/cold extremes and bugs.  We had been researching for roughly 10 years the possibility of an addition to the back of our home.   Earlier this year, we were at a home improvement fair and stopped by a Four Seasons Sunroom booth.  We had heard of the company and decided to talk to the gentlemen in the booth to get a better perspective of their sunrooms.  After listening to them and knowing what we had envisioned for an addition, it just seemed like a perfect match.   My wish list was:  1) the addition had to give me the same feel as being completely outdoors; 2) climate control so we could enjoy it year round; 3) spacious enough for entertaining.  Our specs included: approximately 15 ft width X 19 ft depth x 8 ft height (about 300 sq. ft).  Creative Concepts Home Improvements, Inc.'s base price for a Four Seasons Sunroom was $49,700; additionals were:  1) a heating and air conditioning unit $1,250; 2) flooring $1,900; and a separate electrical box $925 (optional).   We had originally included the installation of a ceiling fan, however, once we saw how low that ceiling fan was going to be in the room, we decided to cancel the ceiling fan. It would have been obstrusive in the center of the room due to low ceiling height and additional air circulation wasn't needed.  The heating and air conditioning unit also provided a fan which works beautifully for air circulation if required.

The design team and the two gentlemen who worked on the project from beginning to end were great.  Communication was great.  They kept us in the loop at all times.  Any concerns/questions we had were answered and/or dealt with right away.  After completion, we had  some water seepage in a few windows.  We called and they came and fixed the problem with some "weeping holes" - hadn't had a problem since.   We have an all glass ceiling which works for us since we have a large tree that shades the sunroom.  However, if you didn't have natural shade, you might want to go with a solid ceiling for shade.   The heating unit has been tested in as low as 25 degrees and heats beautifully.   Worked just as well in the hot summer months when we needed air conditioning in the room.  Our only regret is that we didn't do it sooner.  It has provided us with wonderful "outdoor" space we can use year round and an excellent space for our ever growing family gatherings."

"A lot went wrong with this project but all in all Albar came through and did a fine job. First I want to say the entire Albar team (sales, office & installers) are really nice people and easy to work with. I am a very demanding consumer and they tried to please me every step of the way. My salesman Jim was very knowledgeable and was always there when I needed him.
Now the details: I did quite a bit of research and settled on Sunrise windows. Then I looked around and got quotes from 4 Sunrise dealers. Albar's pricing was fair and I felt the most comfortable with them so I ordered from Jim. The windows took about 4 weeks to arrive after I ordered them but getting them installed took a while as Albar was very busy and the gentleman that was originally scheduled to do the work had injured himself.
When the day came to install the windows and patio door the crew showed up on time and I must say they were very nice guys; very neat and respectful. The entire project was supposed to take 1 day but the patio door alone took 1 day. As they started to look at the windows they realized some parts to the windows were missing and needed to be ordered from the factory. So, another few  weeks pass and they install the windows and as they are installing them they notice the hardware is all broken (from the factory). They call in the rep from Sunrise who agrees that the windows are broken and orders the parts. Another week passes and the service tech from Sunrise comes and fixes the windows and we are all set. Well almost; there was some caulking around the patio door that needed to be done, so once again the installers returned and finished the job. I am very satisfied with the job although it took much longer to complete than anticipated.
I give them very high marks all around but I think my biggest criticism would be the communication between the office and myself as I had to initiate almost all the communications. I do plan on using Albar for the other 10 windows I need replaced and would recommend them to others (I already have).

"There were delays due to weather - attempting to install solar in the winter months has the issues of snow and cold spells. The permitting process was also fairly awful (completely due to the fact my township hasn't ever had solar installed) and ended up adding two months to the wait. Otherwise the install went smoothly and the livening was straightforward. I did get to learn about interconnects, net metering, solar generation, smart meters, and the like."

"Let me first say that this isn't the first time I've hired a contractor.  Being that I'm a vendor myself who is self-employed in a different industry, I have always been shocked at how every contractor I've hired thus far has shown a serious lack of professionalism.  I'm referring to being late, not being responsive to phone calls or emails, instances where instead of owning their mistakes they'd rather blame other contractors... I could go on and on.  I've been amazed that most contractors act like they have little time for you and it's an honor to be graced by their presence.  They all seem to be swamped and not want your 30,000 dollars, which makes me believe I'm in the wrong industry and wish I could be more of an a******.  With all that being said, 41 North Builders were by far and away the best team I've hired so far.  I knew at the end of our first meeting that they were the front runners for the myriad of projects I needed done because not only did they thoroughly walk me through how the projects would be executed, but they also offered solutions to left over problems from past contractors.  For instance, we tore out the rugs in our apartment and added hard wood to all of the stairs.  Since our house is old, our stair heights were uneven and cumbersome to go down unless you were familiar with the footing.  John was the first person to give us a solution that wouldn't involve redoing the entire set of stairs and costing us a crazy amount of money.  I could tell that they weren't trying to oversell us, rather get us what was necessary at a fair price.  Who doesn't want that?
I lost some wind in my sails when it took 6 weeks for John to give me an estimate, which brings me to the negative portion of my review.  I would have normally walked away at this point and hired someone else, but I was so impressed by the initial meeting that I wanted to wait and see where the numbers came in at.  I was surprised to find that the estimate was on the lower side of the 5 we received and was excited that they were very reasonable.  Even though I waited 6 weeks for the estimate, the team was able to start the project in 2 weeks and from that point we hit the pavement running.  The downside was that we were still always in the dark as to when people were showing up in the morning, what days they'd even show up to do the work, and when the project would be done.  If you're looking for a contractor to work within your tight schedule then this may not be the best team for you.  If you're able to be flexible, don't mind an average of 48 to 72 hour response to a simple email, and your top priority is the quality of work, then I highly recommend them.  I found John's subcontractors to be very professional, EXTREMELY hardworking, and experts at their craft.  Everything was done to our liking, nothing looked rushed, and to our amazement, was finished ahead of schedule.
Our final project was to replace the deck and decided after seeing how great the team was that we wanted to use them to replace our pressure treated deck with a composite decking.  John hired a different contractor for this project and started after the inside was complete.  We were getting a little anxious because the project was held up due to us switching from wanting a pressure treated wood to composite.  The surprising thing that happened and is why I would recommend 41 North Builders a hundred times over is that John unbeknownst to us, stopped by to check the deck at about 90% completion and noticed that the workmanship was lacking.  Before we ever said anything to him, there was a new crew working day and night completely replacing the deck.  Rather than hoping that we'd never notice their faulty work, which we may have never had, he took it upon himself to make them start completely over and made sure it was done properly.  The deck now looks beautiful and I'm so thankful for John's honesty.  It is clear that he takes pride in his company's work, and wants it done to his liking no matter what the cost may be.  This is why I would hire 41 North Builders again in a heart beat and have recommended them to redo my parents condo as well as one of my coworkers.

"Very well overall. Peter provided a very detailed estimate at the beginning and throughout the process as we modified or added things in the project. He was good at answering all of our questions in a timely manner and got the project done quickly and efficiently. His price was fair and he did his best to address all our concerns as they came up throughout the project."

FAQs for sunroom or patio enclosure building service projects in Schiller Park, IL

A sunroom is a fully enclosed space with walls of windows or glass. It allows you to enjoy the outdoors from the comfort of the indoors, protected from bugs and weather. It functions as an additional room in your home. A covered patio extends your home's roof over an outdoor area, providing shade and shelter while remaining open to the fresh air. It's a great way to enjoy outdoor living while being protected from sun and rain.

Adding screens to your porch is the most budget-friendly way to enclose it. Screening keeps out insects and debris while letting you enjoy the breeze and outdoor ambiance. It's less expensive than installing full walls or glass enclosures and doesn't usually require permits, making it an efficient way to upgrade your porch.

If you're transforming your porch into a fully enclosed living space like a sunroom, you'll likely need a sturdy foundation, such as a reinforced concrete slab, to support the structure. For a simple screened-in porch, you might be able to use the existing floor and support posts without additional foundation work. It's best to consult a professional to determine what's needed for your project.

An enclosed porch can be considered a living space if it's fully enclosed with solid walls and windows, has a proper roof, and includes heating and cooling systems. It should also have direct access from inside your home. When these criteria are met, the space becomes an extension of your home's livable area.
