Small jobs welcome

"
I called Sequim Valley Electric at the suggestion of a friend. I needed to have three dimmer switches installed that I had purchased myself. While making arrangements for an appointment I was treated in a very easy and friendly manner. I made the appointment without asking for an estimate. I knew that electricians were expensive, but being a simple job for a professional, assumed that they could do it within an hour. The electricians arrived precisely on time, did the job in twenty minutes and left. They were very nice and I was completely satisfied with the work they performed. I was told that the bill would be mailed to me. When I received the bill I was a bit dismayed to find out it was $92.00 excluding tax. They were literally in and out in twenty minutes. There were two of them so it was forty minutes between them, but that still seemed high. I called for an explanation of the bill and it was explained to me that there is a basic service call charge and hourly rates are applied for jobs that take hours to perform. During the course of our conversation I was asked if I was a senior and was told that if I was over 55 the charge was $85.00 instead of $92.00. I understand service call charges and the reasoning behind them, but $92.00 still seemed a bit excessive, so after I got off the phone I went onto Angie?s List and looked into electricians on the site. I found several instances where people were charged anywhere from $50.00 to $75.00 for small jobs similar to what I had done, which indicates to me that $92.00, and even $85 for the senior charge which only applies to seniors, could be on the high end of a service call charge. I can?t say for sure whether or not it is a fair price; I honestly don?t know. Maybe it is perfectly fair and I am simply uninformed. What I do know is that I felt it was on the high end and have learned to never forego Angie?s list again. In the future I will let my fellow members and the service people?s estimates enlighten as to what is fair before having any work done. Since becoming a member I have used Angie?s List many times and this is the first (and last) time I have contacted anybody for service without checking Angie?s List. And to emphasize how well Angie?s List has served me in the past, this is the first time I will not be able to nominate the business for the Page of Happiness. When asked if I would use this company again the only options given are yes or no. Since I believe that I would be able to have the work done for less money I felt that I had to choose no. A more accurate response would be that I am unsure because I would not use them again without first contacting the A rated electricians on the list for estimates. Considering everything, I would say this is a good company, but the next time I need an electrician I will do more to make sure I am doing business with an excellent company.

"

FAQs for electrical switches, outlets & fixtures install or repair projects in Sequim, WA

To select and hire an electrician for your light switch installation, start by evaluating candidates as you would for any skilled position. Ask detailed questions, request a written quote, and verify their licensing credentials. This careful screening prevents unexpected fees and ensures every aspect of the installation, including any drywall repairs, complies with code.

A light switch can malfunction due to compromised wiring or overheating conditions. Faulty connections and excess heat diminish the switch’s performance. If you hear crackling, popping, or hissing sounds when toggling the switch, this indicates active electrical faults that pose a safety hazard and demand immediate professional inspection. Prompt attention prevents further damage and ensures reliable operation.

Installing a light switch takes 30 minutes or less, on average. The installation time depends on the switch type, with dimmer switches requiring additional time compared to standard on-off switches. While the hardware replacement might be completed in 15 minutes, it's essential to adhere to safety protocols, like turning off the circuit breaker and verifying there's no power, for a safe and code-compliant installation.
