I’m a hardworking person who doesn’t like to leave projects half finished or looking sloppy, I can be a bit of a perfectionist. I’ve always fixed and built almost everything I needed myself and I take pride in being self sufficient. I’ve been an electrician for a year and half now and before that I was fabricating aerators for private residences. I have a wife and two children, so I can handle the chaos of a whole house remodel even if you decide to alter any details halfway through.

"Our remodel went extremely well with excellent results. We highly recommend Aaron Prange and Built by YOU to anyone considering a remodel or building their own home. <br /> <br /> Aaron lined up his contractors who arrived on time and completed the work quickly and with beautiful results. Sub-contractors were scheduled concurrently or back-to-back such that our time without the conveniences of a kitchen were at a bare minimum. Additionally, the quality of the completed work was outstanding and performed by people I welcomed into my home and around my family. <br /> <br /> Aaron put me at ease with my own budgetary constraints and often found ways to come in under budget without sacrificing quality or our overall goals. Aaron always made me feel that my remodel was just as important as other larger home building projects he may have had at the time. <br /> <br /> Aaron was always accessible! He was usually on-site on a daily basis expediting the work being done or handling any issues that arose. If not on-site, Aaron called to check on the work done that day or to inform us of who and what to expect the next day, including work to be done and what time to expect workers to arrive. <br /> <br /> In short, his people arrived on time, did exactly the work I expected, were courteous and cleaned up after themselves and like Aaron, followed through to ensure our satisfaction. He did a beautiful job with our remodel!!"

"I have done all sorts of remodel and building projects over the years, and I have never had such a smooth, happy experience as I just did with Building Associates. They just transformed a commercial building’s exterior for me, new roof, siding, paint and were prompt with the initial bid (very fair) and the work went seamlessly. Shadow ran our project and he offered great ideas, was so kind, and made sure I was kept updated on the progress as I live out of town. The office staff was equally as kind and helpful. I HIGHLY recommend Building Associates for any project!"

"We had a basement bathroom with the toilet located near the center of the room. Previous owner had finished the basement himself and had placed walls without taking into account location of drains. All plumbing fixtures were loose and incorrectly installed. Dry wall was poor. Switches were located on wrong wall and door had been installed backward. Prichett Bros not only repaired and replaced literally the entire bathroom, including massive concete work, they helped us to design a very modern and up-to-date space using the latest products available at a very good price. They were professional and timely at all appointments. They contacted us regularly regarding the progress of the work. The workmen they selected for the project were extremely talented and all of the work very well done The entire project was finished on time. I would definietly recommend them for any major renovation project."

"It was by far the best service we've ever received from a service provider! I happened to meet Mr Wallace at the local Sherwin -Willams paint store during a Sunday afternoon supply run. As we both were waiting for an available sales clerk we chatted and Mr Wallace was a wealth of information on home improvement "how to" advice. As we parted I casually asked if he knew of contractors willing to do our small job. I was at this point, in a panic because the day before I learned my daughter, her fiancé, their pets and all of their belongings would be moving back home as they both got jobs in Indy! We had two bathrooms and two bedrooms in the throws of remodel caos and the contractor we thought would be available had just informed us our project was now scheduled to start in October! (we got his estimate in April for July start date, not October!....another story, another review) Mr Wallace surprised me when he said he owned a home repair company could help. I asked when can you start? When he said "Friday", I could have kissed him! This was the beginning of a beautiful relationship! Mr Wallace stopped by that week to look over our projects. During his first visit he continued to give me helpful advice on painting, flooring and general "contractor" insider tips. His pricing was very competitive and the scoop of work left NOTHING overlooked! On the agreed start day Mr Wallace arrived with his crew and walked them through all of the planned work. He returned that evening to check on the progress, in fact Mr Wallace checked on the progress and quality of the work everyday of the three day job. With his guidance we also performed the tasks we needed to do, in the evenings, to be ready for the tradesmen arriving next. Over the past four months we have undergone several home improvement projects: landscaping, exterior house painted, foundation and masonry work, plumbing, whole house carpet cleaning, roof and window work... a total of 10 service providers, with over 30 dudes and dudettes working on my property! Without a doubt Wallace Construction Group was by far the most professional, most helpful, most trustworthy, most respectable. Wallace Construction Group provided the best quality, best price, best service and the best "frontman" ever...Marc Wallace! <br />"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Shoals, IN

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
