"The gentleman who was here was very helpful and after an inspection, he said that I didn't need to have the basement waterproofed, but did recommend a solution for the problem. Very nice man."

"Their representative called me within 2 hours. When I explained the problem, he advised me as to what I should and that it was really a landscaping job. I really appreciated their quick response and his honesty - even though they did not get any business out of it."

"I got three estimates. They were the middle estimate but they did not try to upsell me as the others did even though they did explain all of my options and answer my questions. They arrived on time, performed the work per their estimate. They warned me about the dust even though they clearly tried to contain it as much as possible. Cleaned up after themselves. The drain system is working. The workers answered all of my questions. I would hire them again if needed. They put the drain in one side of my basement and under a porch."

"It took a couple months to schedule the work but at each piece (estimate, electrical, excavation and installation) they called ahead, arrived on time, did all the work required with professionalism and courtesy. They even volunteered to clear the snow from my driveway by shovel when my machine wouldn't start. The use of plastic sheets and a high efficiency vacuum system connected to the jackhammer kept the dust down."

"All items accomplished per discussion with service writer. The items were in response to an energy audit performed by Northeastern REMC, a free service to their customers. It took the workers a bit longer to accomplish all the work, but they didn't shortcut anything. In fact, they found an area that wasn't discussed while foaming the common wall and took care of it as well, as it just made sense to include it. I tipped each of the installers for their extra help. <br /> I could easily tell the comfort difference in every area they'd hit, both during the winter and the subsequent summer. I just hired them to fix another problem with the fireplace area that's been difficult to diagnose and look forward to them resolving the problem. <br />"

"Had my parents temporarily living with me in my finished basement while their home was being built. The toilet in the basement would not drain and also began leaking from the base which was likely the result of my father's extensive (and unsuccessful plunging). Left a message with another well known drain cleaning company at 9:00 pm on a Friday night. After the call was not returned by 9:00 am the following morning, I decided to call All-Rooter. Left a message and Jerry called me back 30 seconds later. He apologized for missing my call, assessed my situation and said he would have someone over within two hours. Less than two hours later, Justin showed up. Justin removed the toilet, successfully cleared the blockage in the sewage line and reinstalled the toilet (along with new wax ring) faster than I could say "my weekend is salvaged". I could not have been more pleased with their attentiveness, knowledge and professionalism. I would recommend All Rooter to anyone."

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in Six Lakes, MI

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
